Katrina Tape Transcripts Show Media Hack Job For those who want to see the transcripts themselves of the video conferences, the New York Times has them for the August 28th and August 29th briefings. The transcript for the 29th makes one garbled mention of the levees around New Orleans (page 6). After making the point that the storm surge would cause the greatest devastation in the Gulfport area of Mississippi, going as high as 21 feet, Max Mayfield then turns to New Orleans:
MAX MAYFIELD: ... The rest of the track we have 10 to 15 feet, in a few areas up to 16 feet. At least glimpsed it out, and Louisiana can talk a little bit more about this than I can, but it looks like the Federal levies [sic] around the City of New Orleans will not have been (incomprehensible) any breaches to. That certainly doesn't sound like a warning -- and this was on the day the levees broke. That transcript clearly shows that the conference considered the storm surge and precipitation runoff to be the major threats of flooding in New Orleans. The possibility of breaches, even on the 29th, had been discounted.
The transcript from the August 28th meeting talked more about levees, but in the same vein, and this time no one mentions the word "breach". Starting on page 5, Max Mayfield again talks about the dangers of Lake Pontchartrain, but only in the context of the winds created a surge that could overtop the levees:
One of the valleys here in Lake Pontchartrain, we've got on our forecast track, if it maintains its intensity: about 12 1/2 feet of storm surge in the lake. The big question is going to be: will that top some of the levies? And the currrent track and the forecast we have now suggests there will be minimal flooding in the city of New Orleans itself, but we're -- we've always said that the storm surge model is only accurate within 20 percent. If that track were to deviate just a little bit to the west, it would -- it makes all the difference in the world. I do expect that there will be some of the levies over top even out here in the western portions where the airport is. We've got valleys that can't overtop some of the levies.
The problem we're going to have here -- remember, the winds go counterclockwise around the center of the hurricane. So if the really strong winds clip Lake Pontchartrain, that's going to pile some of that water from Lake Pontchartrain over on the south side of the lake. I don't think any model can tell you with any confidence right now whether the levies will be topped or not, but that's obviously a very, very grave concern.
Again, the entire briefing that related to levees only focused on the effects of the wind on Lake Pontchartrain and its effect in pushing water over the top of the levees. Mayfield never even addressed the possibility of breaches in the levee walls. And in fact, the storm track shifted eastward in the final hours before Katrina hit, which eliminated much of the predicate for even the worries Mayfield expresses in this transcript.
The media got it wrong yet again on Katrina. The notion that the experts warned of levee breaches is nothing more than a hack job initiated by the AP and continued by the rest of the Exempt Media even after the source material has proven it false.
No, I didn't see it; tell!
ewwwww.........his lips look like Clutch Cargo!
The mentally ill and std infected maggots of the MSM keep dragging this road kill skunk around trying to harm GW.
There was massive flooding in the two main wine country counties in N. California due to heavy rains New Years Eve. FEMA finally showed up earlier this week, close to 2 months after the flooding.
There were very few flood victims went to FEMA, and most didn't want nor need their help. FEMA sent their people in the neighborhoods to find people who needed their help. Even the door to door search by FEMA agents failed to find a tidal wave of victims needing help or wanting it.
Why should he assume otherwise? The Governors of the other Gulf states had plans in place that gave responsibilty to the locals for first response, and they worked. The damn dim Dems had plans but never implemented them.
So why doesn't the press show the clip of the President personally addressing the people of SE LA telling them to head the warnings of the hurricane center and evacuate before its too late? Oh, yeah. Forgot. The drive-by shooting press has an agenda, and its to rewrite history according to DNC talking points.
Remember,"Perception is Reality" in this media driven world and these tapes are giving the media and DU some very convincing sound bites and quotes!!!
That said, this still doesn't address the fact that there were something like 750 school busses just sitting within a two mile radius of the Dome!!!! There was enough time and busses to get the entire evacuee population out of the city. So why didn't Nagin order the busses to transport the population to safety?
**** I'm steaming this morning after hearing our local news channels trying to shift the blame once more onto Bush for the failure of government of N.O. to evacuate their city. If I remember correctly, Bush called and warned them to get their people out. Why, oh why, can't they leave the blame where it belongs? With the people and government of N.O. Do they need the Fed Government to tell them everything? Don't they have enough common sense to act on their own? Apparently, NOT! When we see how Nagin, et al, never used those buses to help get people out. Sorry.....sorry.......Rant off! I hope there is someone in the media reading this post. I hope they set the record straight before the public believes this crap once again.*********
By gently laughing at Brownie, Brit got his dig in.
I only wish that a tape was made with Blanco and Nagin...then we'd know the REAL story about how local and state officials dropped the Katrina ball!

Dear MoveOn member,
This evening, the Associated Press released secret transcripts and video footage showing President Bush being personally briefed the day before Hurricane Katrina hit land. The predictions he heard were shockingly precise and accurateincluding the failure of the levees. He knew exactly what was coming.
The article is a smoking gun on Bush's unpardonable failure to keep us safe. In just a few hours, the White House will be filling the airwaves with spin, so it's important to reach out right now to pass on the straight story to family and friends. If each of us acts, we can directly reach millions of people before morning.
The full AP article is attached below. Can you help get the word out to at least 5 friends? You can forward on this note or follow the link below:

At the August 28th briefing, the president was told exactly what to expect:
The chief scientist of the National Hurricane Center warned that a major levee breach was "obviously a very, very grave concern." Bush lied to the entire nation about this point just 5 days later.
Michael Brown told the president that if New Orleans flooded the Superdome emergency shelter would likely be under water and short on supplies, creating a "catastrophe within a catastrophe."
Experts and officials implored the President to prepare for, as the AP described it, "devastation of historic proportions."
President Bush didn't ask a single question during the briefing. In the next two days he campaigned, attended birthday parties and played guitar while the worst natural disaster in American history killed over 1,300 people and displaced hundreds of thousands.
There can now be no mistake: President Bush had a chance to lead, and he failed to keep us safe.
In the next few days, we'll be tracking this story carefully and coordinating our response with partners in New Orleans and around the nation.
The survivors of Katrina deserve to know why the president left them to suffer the storm. And the people of the United States deserve leadership we can trust to keep our families safe. We'll work hard together until we have both.
Tonight, let's start by spreading the word:

So the talking points are out there.

The drugged out, whacked out, and STD infected mediot perverts of the AP try another "Drive By Shooting" of President Bush and his people.
MoveOn.org lying as usual.
I can't figure out if they are deliberately lying to keep the moonbats spooled up, or if they have serious comprehension problems, or if they're just flat stupid.
Either way, they're nuttier than a fruitcake.
There was already an off air but on camera comment from Blanco after the flooding where she said (in a whispered tone) that she didn't want to call in the National Guard because she didn't want to put good people in harm's way (not sure if she meant putting soldiers in an area run by thugs or putting "evil" military guys in her port town).
Blanco wasn't calling the shots, the DNC was.
Rush calls it Drive By Media. I've been calling it Zogbyism since election day.
Whatever it is, it is an old Communist trick of the trade.
And, let's finish the scenerio!
After Bush was briefed, didn't he call BooHoo Blank-o, and request that she federalize the storm effort, before the storm hit, and she never got back to him with an answer!
