WASHINGTON Feb 27, 2006 (AP)-- Eleven cities have shown interest in playing host to the 2008 Democratic National Convention, twice the number of cities that applied to get the 2004 gathering.
The DNC initially sent out letters to more than 30 cities, giving them an overview and finding out their level of interest.
The 11 cities that said they were interested: Anaheim, Calif.; Dallas; Denver; Detroit; Las Vegas; Minneapolis; New Orleans; New York; Orlando, Fla.; Phoenix and San Antonio.
Some of the cities are in critical swing states like Florida and Arizona, while others are in population centers like New York and the Los Angeles area. Those in the Southwest and Rocky Mountain region are in states where Democrats hope a growing Hispanic population could help tip the balance. Dallas and San Antonio are in firmly Republican Texas.

LOL!
Except Buffy sealed that opening; Her Heinous would have to find another.
Dan
Disaster? They had a few problems but I certainly wouldn't call it a disaster.
The Red Sox insanity caused more problems.
So is San Antonio. I think Denver would be good but the People's Republic of Boulder would be even better. San Antonio is typically Republican.
I was at DU and kicked off in one day! You should see the FR piece they have going... ;o)
Or Leningrad or Stalingrad.
How about San Francisco with Barney Frank as the key note speaker.
The whole city was desserted for the week. Businesses lost a bundle. The Democratic party catered the delegates instead of letting them eat locally and help the economy. They hired cars for the delegates which angered the cab drivers, who had nobody else to drive around since the city was empty. Our idiot mayor intended it to be a boom for the city. It was the opposite.
I'm with you - New Orleans would be oh so apropos
Or Alcatraz, Caracas, or the Gaza Strip...
That would work too. I was happily imaging the problems they'd encounter getting back into the country while sending geiger counters into fits.
Or Beijing, Aruba, or Provincetown...
But old Mumbles got elected again, didn't he? The Massachusetts voter never ceases to amaze me.
The union thugs aren't going to vote for anybody else. He's kept the Big Dig moving slowly for 13 years.
"I think there is absolutely an opportunity to make it happen," said Gordon, although he said Phoenix likely would have more ammunition by 2012 with new hotel rooms and a light- rail system up and fully running. "But if we submit for 2008, we'll be serious about it," Gordon said. "Obviously, we'll have to seek a lot of support from the business community and the party to help sponsor it." The GOP's site selection committee is to decide on finalist cities by mid-summer. The committee will make a final selection by Feb. 1, 2007. The mayor said Phoenix also would be interested in hosting a Democratic National Convention.
minneapolis will get it. it's a disaster in progress.
New Orleans gets my vote... just say N.O.
I was told San Antonio already has the State Convention for this year...
I think the Dem 2008 convention should be in New Orleans. Here is a chance for the dem/lib/lefties to put their money where their mouths are. Give it to NO so the money can come back and help rebuild New Orleans. I dont' see any other city more deserving. Now, let's see how badly the dem/lib/lefties want to help New Orleans after the administration was so responsible and then ole barney saying Bush was doing ethnic cleansing there. Come on Dems...where is your heart? Take the convention to New Orleans. Let hillereee, pelosi, gore, dean, kerry, kennedy and all that ilk go there and really pump up the city. This is a real opportunity for the dems to help out New Orleans. Will they step up to the plate and be counted or will they just buzz by New Orleans and pretend she doesn't exist. They ARE after all only talkers about things, right? Let's see how much they REALLY care about New Orleans and what all they have been through. Let's see if Nagin, Blanco and Landrieu all scream for New Orleans to host the Dem convention. I think it would be a real blast. Anyone else agree?
