Teacher to return after having sex change

EAGLESWOOD TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - To students at Eagleswood Elementary School, she used to be Mr. McBeth. Now, after undergoing a sex change, 71-year-old Lily McBeth is ready to return to teaching as Miss McBeth.

Despite criticism from parents, the school board on Monday stood by its decision to allow McBeth to resume working as a substitute teacher.

After two hours of public debate and a private meeting with McBeth and her lawyer, the board took no action on calls by several parents to bar McBeth from returning to the school where she taught for five years before becoming a woman.

"It was magnificent," McBeth said afterward. "You saw democracy in action."

McBeth, a retired sales executive who was married for 33 years and had three children, underwent gender reassignment surgery last year and re-applied for her job under her new name.

McBeth on Monday told the school board and the crowd that she loves teaching and children, and looks forward to returning to the classroom.

..........

Several parents said children in the school - which consists of kindergarten through sixth grade - were not old enough to understand the concept of changing one's gender.

"I, as a parent, am appalled to have this issue brought into my child's psychology," Steve Bond said.

Vincent Mustacchio predicted "chaos" at the school when the students learned of McBeth's surgery.

Young children will be confused by the conflicting appearance of McBeth, who has a deep voice and masculine features but otherwise looks like a woman, other parents said.

"I will not allow you to put my kids in a petri dish and hope it all turns out fine," said Mark Schnepp, who had taken out an ad in a local newspaper urging parents to turn out for the meeting.

You have a gift! LoL! That same gift got you a few visits to the principle in your school days I bet!

Actually, there's something subtly correct but unintended by the term "reassignment": It suggests that there was an initial "assignment," which has been overturned.

Actually, I got away with a lot, I guess mainly because I was never disruptive in a hostile manner. I did try to go for laughs, though.

The only visit to the Principal's office I had was for being lazy, which I still am.

>> The only visit to the Principal's office I had was for being lazy, which I still am. <<

As someone with ADD, (NOT ADHD!), I've learned some traits which reflect ADD:

Strange combinations of thoughts, demonstrated by a warped sense of humor
Failure to accomplish in a day my goals, which I labelled "lazy."
"Absent-mindedness"
Non-disruptive, but "off-task" behavior in school
A tendency to be called "Bob," even though that's not my name.

Reject the treatment if you want to, but you might just want to see if you have ADD. I still have my warped humor, but I get a lot more accomplished in a day.

School board attorney Paul Carr said McBeth was a good teacher who had received favorable reviews during her tenure as a substitute.

Gee, I bet that was tough to get favorable teacher reviews.

The standards must be really high.

Oh, by the way, the "overdiagnosed" label is a fair somewhat true, but grossly exaggerated. When they tell you that 10 million prescriptions are written every year for ADD, what they don't tell you is that you have to get a new prescription written out every month because the medicine is a controlled substance. So that's really less than one million people receiving medication for ADD out of a population of 300 million.

don't think, from the picture, that there is much chance of a similar situation not being 'outed'.

LOL! I actually meant that the liberal and gay agenda would be brought into the light.
I wasn't clear and thank you for the post.

While homeschooling is indeed the way to go, I would say it's about time parents stood up, and beat these people at their own game. Start suing for the emotional and psychological damage done to their children. Start suing when kids drop out because they cannot stomach this stuff day after day. Homeschool yes, but take it all the way to the Supreme Court WHY that decision was made. These people must be exposed.

We have been fighting this every other way in MA, and have told people non stop, what happens here will spread. Our efforts have not stopped the spread, and unfortunately, legal action is the only way we can stop it. I personally hate suing, but in this case, they need to be held accountable in order to stop it and stop the spread.

"A tendency to be called "Bob," even though that's not my name."

Sorry, I'm too lazy to seek justification in victimhood.

I don't have ADD, ADHD, or an addition to Ritalin. I'm just not well-motivated.

I can summon the enthusiasm to do a lot of interesting and productive things, as long as it's fun.

Usually, my lack of enthusiasm is directly proportional to how much the project benefits someone else instead of me.

Maybe I'm not actually lazy -- just selfish. But definitely not affected, infected, or dejected by anything, (although I was Se-lected at one time.)

By the way, it has never bothered me to be called Bob. I have been called Bill a few times, but that didn't bother me much either.

I saw a man on one of the talk shows last night, his response to PC was so right on. PC is a rock which bigotry hides behind. It results in tolerance. Who wants tolerance? You tolerate a nagging relative, that you can't in reality, get rid of. Who wants to be thought of that way, and why would anyone want to feel that way. PC is evil. Discussion should be honest, tolerance is a lie.

Yes.

He also said, "It may be better to be a live jackal than a dead lion, but it is better still to be a live lion, and it's usually easier!" (- Robert Heinlein)

I live by both precepts. Here's one of mine that I used as a tagline:

"Too many people never put anything into the collection plate, but they still expect change."

Life imitates South Park again.

Yep. They don't play the pc game. This isn't "gender reassignment". This guy isn't a woman. There is no female DNA there. It's just hacked up male parts. It's just a guy who found a doctor willing to mutilate him. Why doctors are allowed to do this is beyond me. Then again, I could branch off into an abortion/euthanasia rant that isn't called for here.

Those parents arguing against having a "transgendered" teach their children are arguing on the other side's terms. It's a losing proposition IMO. They need to come right out and say they oppose having a mentally ill person, who self-mutilates, teaching their children.

Shims! Oy vey. Melissa Sue Robinson is a well-known shim in these parts, always running for city council and school board. I don't care if he shops at Lady Foot Locker and I try not to think about what he's done to his genitalia and it doesn't matter to me that he's changed his name. He could've gone with Daisy Duke, it still wouldn't change the fact that he's a guy.
