Cheney seen retiring after midterm elections (Drudge Siren)

Vice President Dick Cheney is expected to retire within a year.

Senior GOP sources envision the retirement of Mr. Cheney in 2007, months after the congressional elections. The sources said Mr. Cheney would be persuaded to step down as he becomes an increasing political liability to President Bush.

The sources reported a growing rift between the president and vice president as well as their staffs. They cited Mr. Cheney's failure to immediately tell the president of the accidental shooting of the vice president's hunting colleague earlier this month. The White House didn't learn of the incident until 18 hours later.

BOOM! You nailed it! We need someone going in as a VP... The last time the field has been open without a sitting VP trying to become president has been 54 years... Condi would shock the nation.. in a great way!

A liability to a person that can't seek re-election? Doesn't make any sense. It would really be to no benefit. I seriously doubt it'll happen.

Sorry, but I didn't have time to read 271 thread postings. If it bothers you get off the website and go play computer games; either way, mind you own business. Some of us have a life and have other things to do besides sit around and count duplicated threads. Apparently you can't count anyhow. How did you count the "100th" when there was less than three hundred. Must be a product of public education.

Make that the "1000th" not the "100th". I make typos when I'm ticked.

The Presidential Succession Act requires that the Speaker of the House or the President Pro Tempore of the Senate resign their seats before becoming President or Vice President. (Since this did not happen in 1981, Al Haig was the lawful acting President).

However there has to be a vacancy in the Presidency as well as the Vice Presidency in order to invoke this law.

Anyway, here's the first part of 3 U.S.C. 19:

(a)(1) If, by reason of death, resignation, removal from office, inability, or failure to qualify, there is neither a President nor Vice President to discharge the powers and duties of the office of President, then the Speaker of the House of Representatives shall, upon his resignation as Speaker and as Representative in Congress, act as President.
(2) The same rule shall apply in the case of the death, resignation, removal from office, or inability of an individual acting as President under this subsection.

This is why Drudge isn't what he used to be. We used to be able to believe him but he's cried wolf so many times that I bet against anything he says.

I suppose you've never heard of exaggeration? I get irritated after reading the same thing over and over and over. There's also this thing called view replies where you can see if someone else has already answered the question repeatedly.

Although I am a big Condi person on this board, this article is no more that warmed over batsh*t. Insight has basically published what we all knew has been going on in the WH over the last month.

If it does happen, and Condi is the VP, we'll all be pleased as punch. Well, all except Cankles. Cankles won't be pleased.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

Cheney should stay on if for no other than to disrupt the leftist moonbat's insatiable desire to see this administration taken down. Not no, but HELL NO!

Stick it out Cheney. I'll cherish the 'thumb in your eye moment' it will provide for the leftists.

...my immediate reaction will be to fight like hell against the new VP.

I don't know if I'd get too worked up over this. From the smell of it, I'd submit Jayson Blair may now be freelancing for Insight. I think the best thing that could happen is for "W" to take a solid stand for Cheney. Take the VP to the woodshed if necessary, but it makes little sense to throw him overboard. The Dims, given their allies within the faux press, would probably get a lot more mileage out of it than Pubbies.

Condi for Cheney...

It's all a Rovian Plot to unhinge the democrats, we should just play along to assist the meltdown.

This whole thing reeks.

If Cheney steps aside early, it will be because he is smart enough to know that, in consideration of his health, he can serve the president better as a part-time, less official advisor.

You're correct! It is "bull". I think every year the media goes gaga and says Cheney is going to retire.

Andrew Card knew within a few hours.

And .. so .. what was the President expected to do even if he knew ..?? This is just more of the game they play by continuing to keep this going.

IT'S NOT WORKING! But .. I guess when you see a person making a fool of themselves .. it's best to just get out of the way.
