Vice President Dick Cheney is expected to retire within a year.
Senior GOP sources envision the retirement of Mr. Cheney in 2007, months after the congressional elections. The sources said Mr. Cheney would be persuaded to step down as he becomes an increasing political liability to President Bush.
The sources reported a growing rift between the president and vice president as well as their staffs. They cited Mr. Cheney's failure to immediately tell the president of the accidental shooting of the vice president's hunting colleague earlier this month. The White House didn't learn of the incident until 18 hours later.

Which would not preclude a filibuster by the dems in the Senate as they could simply filibuster to prevent a vote from occurring in the Senate. As I have already said, however, I think it highly unlikely the Senate would filibuster Condi or anybody else, as there is no justification and they would come across in an even worse light than normal.
As a result of a blatantly unconstitutional power grab by Congress to grant themselves an appointment power that is not allowed for in the Constitution.
And Osama has a 7-ll store somewhere in West Virginia.
Drudge has finally jumped the shark and then some.
Not that I am a big Condi fan, but made this to tweak dems.
On the 19th, I suggested:
I [recommend] Donald Rumsfeld.
If the Vice President wishes to step aside [during] this term in office, then I think Rumsfeld is best able to continue a strong stand against terror, and least likely to be dragged down by PC concerns.
His vigor and energy are twice that of younger men, and we have clearly seen that he has conceded nothing to age.
Interestingly, in a recent speech to the National Press Club, when Rumsfeld was asked if he were planning to fade into the sunset, he said, and I paraphrase closely, "Dick Nixon said that you wouldn't have him [Nixon] to kick around anymore. I'm saying no such thing!"
Go, Rummy, go!
PS: The following is an Official Prediction. First time announced! Ready? Here goes...
Vice-President Cheney resigns after January 20 2007. The President appoints the best qualified person to replace him. And that person is not Condi Rice, but Don Rumsfeld.
The Congress can't really turn down the appointment. And, with Rumsfeld as the new Vice-President, he takes the inside track for the 2008 nomination.
The President is one hell of a poker player, isn't he?
I stand by my prediction!
This election is not about abortion. It's about defeating the clintons forever.
LOL...I think that you're on to something!
That is NEVER going to happen!
Why exactly can't Congress (especially if the Dems take one or both Chambers back in the midterms) refuse? You don't think they will bring up everything from body armor and Gitmo to torture and Abu Griab "war crimes"?!
Good Lord, how long have we been hearing this??? Oh, since about January 2001.
This is pure BS - how can he be a political liability to Bush? I don't think Bush is planning to run for a third term. Only the Bent One dreamed of that...
How can a VP be a political liablity to a Lame Duck President? Bush doesn't need any help in that area anyways!
So is this retirement like the pre-'02 elections Cheney retirement, pre-'04 elections Cheney retirement, or post-'04 elections retirement? I can't keep track of 'em all!
