Al Qaeda warned the government of the United Arab Emirates more than three years ago that it "infiltrated" key government agencies, according to a disturbing document released by the U.S. military. The warning was contained in a June 2002 message to UAE rulers, in which the terror network demanded the release of an unknown number of "mujahedeen detainees," who it said had been arrested during a government crackdown in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks.
The explosive document is certain to become ammunition for critics of the controversial UAE port deal, who fear the Dubai-based firm could be used by terrorists to sneak money and personnel into the United States.
Little is known about the origins or authorship of the message.
"You are well aware that we have infiltrated your security, censorship and monetary agencies, along with other agencies that should not be mentioned," the message said.
"Therefore, we warn of the continuation of practicing . . . policies which do not serve your interest and will only cost you many problems that will place you in an embarrassing state before your citizens.
"Your homeland is exposed to us. There are many vital interests that will hurt you if we decided to harm them."
The document was among a batch of internal al Qaeda communications captured by U.S. forces in the war on terror.

Let me be clear about this deal.
I'm concerned, but there may be more to this than we are aware, which is why I am so concerned. They have helped us in the Gulf region, but they also harbor a deep resentment towards the USA and Isreal. In the end, Israel may be our only stratigic launching point regardless of how this unfolds. Only time will tell.
OH, IT'S TONGUE-IN-CHEEK!
I figured you'd catch the "convoy of Maybacks" reference. How many petrol dollars would it take to buy a convoy? An hour's worth of pumping oil.
I was almost a little bit slower than usual.
Tongue-in-cheekness was the only way I could make sense of it. Glad that's what it was.
I was ready for a nap. Really. We had made a very, very early run to the airport along with two fruitless trips to oh-my-gawd Walmart.
Our son returned to Minot AFB after attending a two-week school out at Lackland AFB. His Grandfather passed along his lever action Winchester 30-30 to him. To take it on the flight with him, he needed a solid carrying case with a locking feature. Walmart had one case in stock but they couldn't find the key!
So, because I can't ship it to a residential address, I've got custody of the rifle till he comes back for a visit or one of his buddies comes down for the same or similar school.
Now, you could have some really good fun satirizing that head-butting provision of the National Firearms Act. :-)
Side note - Now, I've really blown it. I can never again claim I never ever shop at Walmart.
The things we sacrifice for our children. :-)
>>>I was quite surprised and dissapointed to see him so vehemently defend the port deal that he didn't even see before hand.
Please don't insult our collective intelligence by trying to twist his words; he did NOT defend the deal before he was brought up to speed on what was going on. >>>
Excuse me, but he did defend a deal he did not know about until AFTER the fact. Don't twist MY words.
That is just an out and out lie.
But you just keep saying it.
>>>You really want to gamble on that with our national security?
Who do you suggest we believe, you or the entire United States government?>>>
Please define the "entire United States government"? The only people I have seen endorse this deal has been the White House. Do you need remedial Social Studies class, or do you believe that the White House IS the "entire United States government".
Its not the size, its what you do with it.
One possibility: Iran
I would love to have the terrorists go after a nuclear reactor. Surrounded by reenforced concrete, controlled by fail-safes controls, patrolled by armed guards, and quick reaction plans posted and updated every few months.
Better to have them waste time there, than go someplace where they could do some harm.
Thanks for proving you either aren't paying attention or you're deliberately ignoring the facts.

Excuse me? Even if President Bush did know about the "deal" he could not reveal the details of it because the process conducted by the CFIUS was required by the Exon-Florio Amendment to be top secret. Any talk about those proceedings would be an impeachable offense. Let's stop being stuck on stupid, shift gears, and move this "deal" forward.

Sounds like a wonderful day helping a very loved son. You earned the nap!
The grandaughter's been with us since Friday and she's brought two friends -- lot's of giggling, video games, snacking etc. Nap? Sounds good...
Don't forget my name. I endorse the port sale to the UAE 100%.
So Mark Steyn, Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly are part of the "entire United States government"? You aren't making your point very well.
The people who are SUPPOSE to approve it, as set up by Congress, approved it.
Live with it.

Well DUHHHHH Of course I'll live with it. Doesn't mean I'll like it and it doesn't mean I won't question my vote NEXT time a little more carefully.
I don't think you like much, period.
Always nice to know you "get it". :)
