I actually agree with you. The White House uses the term "lessons learned" to label what they learn from whatever they do so they will do better the next time, and the process they use to evaluate how well they did.

No operation is perfect, and I doubt anyone would argue Katrina was, but the left went overboard in trying to cover Democrat failutes by blaming FEMA and the Feds.

I don't know if any of you have been watching Tony on Fox this morning....but, he had on Peter King.

Now, those of us that have listened to Tony's show this week, know that Tony had done LOTS of homework on this ports deal..and even sent Griff out to the docks to speak with people out there.

He has been for the deal from the beginning, but hasn't done it just based on "trust" of the POTUS...he has interviewed Tommy Franks and others.

Well...Peter King came on and was STILL complaining that Bush didn't go to the 9/11 Commission for "permission"...and is saying there needs to be a full investigation...and when Tony said that both the President and the Dubai company had agreed to WAIT until all questions were answered...

THAT was NOT good enough for Peter...Tony looked puzzled and basically asked what he wanted, since they had already agreed to the delay??

Peter saw off into quoting stuff that UAE was supposedly doing back in the 90's..re: Bin Ladin...and that it doesn't matter if they have changed...they only have changed in order to do business with the US..

The kicker, for me, came when Tony asked Peter if he had spoken with Tommy Franks or Peter Pace....King pretty much blew them off....acting like they WEREN'T reliable sources...but the 9/11 commission ARE!!!

It was truly bizarre...and I got the feeling that King was just grasping for any excuse NOT to want to accept the offer by the Dubai company that they will do what it takes to allay Congress and American's fear.

Tony---if you read this, and had a different take about Peter King...feel free to correct me.

What I find amazing about the Katrina thing is that there have days and days of Congressional hearings...

The House came out with that scathing report last week, blaming Chertoff for about 90% of it...

and then the other day, the White House came out with that report in a bound book and had a HUGH amount of people around the table with President Bush, when President Bush himself was castigating the government(s) for their failures...and how many changes need to be made...blah, blah..

BUT, then yesterday, her Hitleryness was in Florida making a campaign speech (for NEW YORK SENATOR?)...and was STILL mad because she is calling for a 9/11 type commission to "investigate" Katrina!!!!

Does that not SPELL out in capital letters that it is always, always political and NEVER to help find answers???

Get the impression that Pete King is running scared of the Union on this?

Right, and since there is no apparent rational for this position, I have to ask what is the real reason. Too bad I don't know the answer. (I see Tony said you got it right :)

I just got back from the lake. I didn't find anything today, but did find a perfect Darl point about a month ago. It was laying in about one inch of water.

It looks similar to this and is about the same length, but the quality of the workmanship is much finer.

It seems like every thread I have read about this, has had a freeper mention Peter King's relationship with the unions...and Johnnie, you just did...

So, Bah...unless something else comes to light...I am leaning towards thinking his attitude might be linked to them, and of course, it is NOT something he is going to talk about on TV..

It is much "safer" to blame President Bush, unfortunately.

Did either of you just see the Col. somebody that Tony just had on?? He laughed about how Peter King said that a 98% certainty about the security of the deal wasn't enough..

because the previous story was about the 3 men in the US, that are terrorists training HERE!

Tony is doing an excellent job of getting guests on today to show "both sides"....and isn't it sad that the Republicans seem to be as hysterical about this as the dems??

Hello,

True, the left went so far that even some of my family members (who view being uninformed as a badge of honor), understood that it was the local and state governments that totally dropped the ball. They did not buy the spin, which amazed me!

Glad to be here, MOgirl

Has it been raining much?? I bet the rain doesn't keep you from looking though, does it??

The arrowheads in the picture look pretty good, so if the one you found is better...it is a keeper for sure!

We had just over 1/2 inch this morning and the rain quit about 10:30. There was one heavy shower about 8 AM, so I decided to see if any arrowheads were on the sand.

That one I found went into one of my display cases the day after I found it, and everyone who has seen them is just amazed at the quality and number of points I have found. I think that last one makes 135 in two cases.

I didn't see Johnnie's post until after I sent mine. I am inclined to agree with him that it's the unions which now have pickets out with "keep our ports safe" signs.

A politician saying they are wrong is harder than putting toothpaste back in the tube. They know they get hammered if they admit fault or being wrong, and Peter King has the added problem of being in a liberal state with an extremist liberal press. He's in a no-win situation. I think King is more conservative than he comes across sometimes, but he's usually been fair in the past from what I remember.

This is why the agreement to more hearings works. It gives all these guys a vehicle to say they changed their minds based on new or expanded information. Tony instinctively knows this which is why he proposed it on air yesterday.

Most pundits won't give them the out, but the best question for all these politicians is "will you give DP World a fair hearing before deciding?"

What I cannot figure is what is the Union angle? Are they afraid this company is going to be harder on them then the old one? Or do they think if they stir up enough panic their Democrat Pols can ride to the rescue and "nationalize" port operations under the guise of "safety" like they did the Airline Screeners after 9-11 and add tens of thousands of new workers to the Govt Union rolls?

It's always politics for Democrats. They don't have ideas to stand on and are looking for things to complain about. A 9/11 Commission style report, where Democrats have had success, is a way for them to gain relevancy and demonize Republicans in the name of appearing to be bipartisan.
