Landrieu Leads Nagin In N.O. Mayor's Poll

Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu leads the first poll in the New Orleans mayor's race. The results for the four candidates listed in the summary were: Landrieu, 35 percent; Nagin, 25; Ron Forman, 9; Peggy Wilson, 7.

The Ed Renwick survey, commissioned by a group of local businessmen, sampled 400 voters who could be reached through their New Orleans phone numbers.

Where does Mike Hammer rank in the broad scheme of things?

BTW, I say the word "scheme" lightly when it comes to Louisiana politics.

Oh great, we are all doomed.

Landrieu is just another shill for the fools at the DNC.

Ugh.

That is not good news. I would rather have Nagin than Landrieu. Nagin may be a buffoon; but, at least he is honest. My personal choice would be Peggy Wilson. She is quite a lady in a Margaret Thatcher sort of way.

From the article, which discusses a lot of issues besides the NOLA mayoral race:
Instead of setting up a huge new government bureaucracy to administer its planned $9.8 billion housing grant program, the Louisiana Recovery Authority intends to contract out a lot of the work to private firms, according to director Andy Kopplin.

"We are talking to different groups, including bankers, to administer the mammoth program," he said. "We have to depend on the private sector."

Finally, a non-incompetent bureaucrat in LA. Amazing!!

I know.

Landrieu and Nagin both make me sick.

But I am over here in Jefferson Parish, so all I can do is pray that this election works out for the best.

I'm in St. Charles Parish, so I won't be voting either. I would strongly support Peggy Wilson. I heard her speak at a Women's Club meeting a few years ago. Also, watched her pretty closely when she was on the City Council. She presents herself very well and doesn't back down from a fight.

Did they get ahold of this guy?

I hear you.

But won't Nagin win the election before she will?

:-(

I think Wilson might be able to beat Nagin. It really depends on the evacuee vote. I don't think Nagin will be able to have a big "machine" behind his campaign. If they bus people to the polls they will vote for whoever is offering the most free handouts. That sure as heck won't be Peggy Wilson. But, whoever is voting for honesty and common sense will sure give her a second glance.

You are right.

I just get depressed when I realize how worthless Nagin and Blanco are, and that they are in charge of things.

We need strong and focused leadership at the local level to get this place cleaned up.

Otherwise, I fear for our future will just continue to remain stagnant.

On a positive note, I like that the city council is taking steps away from the "free stuff" system.

Think it will last?

Please hope with me, here.

They should just rename Louisiana "Landrieu" and get it over with.

Agree. Why don't the people from NOLA get that it has been the Landrieus that have been in control for years and they are part of the problem, not the solution.

When referring to the Landrieu "family" as it relates to politics in Louisiana, keep in mind that these days you are talking only about Mary and Mitch. Their father has not been in elected office since 1978 when he completed his second term as mayor of New Orleans.

There have been four others elected mayor since then, Ernest N. (Dutch) Morial, Sidney Barthelemy, Marc Morial, and Ray Nagin. Three of the four each served two four year terms.

I'm not saying that the Landrieus have no power, but they don't have the omnipotent power that some seem to think that they have. In other words, they don't run the state of Louisiana or New Orleans.
