Bush would accept slight delay in ports deal-Rove Thu Feb 23, 2006 4:19 PM ET
WASHINGTON, Feb 23 (Reuters) - President George W. Bush would accept a slight delay in permitting Dubai Ports World to acquire a British company that operates six key U.S. ports, senior White House adviser Karl Rove told Fox News.
When asked if Bush would accept a slight delay in implementing the takeover of P&O , Rove said: "Yes, look, there are some hurdles, regulatory hurdles, that this still needs to go through on the British side as well that are going to be concluded next week.

Yep. What sane business executive would want to bend over for a nationally televised rectalscope done by politically-driven opportunists at the behest of an idiot public who would elect Simon Cowell president, if he ran?
Whose Simon Cowell?
Freepers were nearly 60% against. That number has been steadily falling since facts have become known. It's now about 53%. Should the poll be started over, I think you'd find it wouldn't break 50% against.
The fact is that the deal is going through. He's just allowing the American people to be educated and critics to find a way to pull themselves off the ledge. Look at the Governor of Maryland, Erhlich, who has changed his position already.
First off, the poll question should be in relation to DP World managing commercial business ventures; they will never be allowed to manage a U.S. port.
Absolutely, but that specific poster seems to be of opinion the deal will be killed because 54% at the time the post was made objected. It's a silly argument to make, but one easily dismissed just on basis I've followed the poll and watched it steadily diminish. Even as it is worded. I've witnessed opinion on the board shift. Shuld JR run it again, that poster won't have the same results and really shouldn't rely on the false security of current results largely registered early on for an argument.
Yep. That's the same problem some of the radio talk show hosts and press pundits have. They quickly jumped on this red herring and are now trying to defend their positions despite the growing mountain of facts disproving this manufacture hysteria rather then admit they were played like a cheap fiddle.
I think it hurts the credibility of those that allowed themselves to be swept in hysteria, but I can find it forgiveable if they back away and repair the damage. As Erlich apparently is doing. Hysteria is a forgiveable offense, so long as it isn't a repeated offense. But folks are walking a tightrope with me given they did this recently with Katrina as well. I'd recommend they not do so again.
Had this been a cynical political cowardly performance I'd feel differently. I do believe for some this would be motive, but it's clear to me the majority simply just took leave of their senses. Not the best qualification for those applying for the Presidency...but the rest with some repair work I'll let go.
Not so for the others that do not back down. Most of these people constantly take pride in demanding the administration humble itself. If they cannot do so when they are in the wrong, the excuse of hysteria no longer qualifies. It'll become deliberate. A refusal to show humility and tell folks, "We were wrong. We screwed up. We didn't look at the facts. We apologize." will not reflect well on them. Time is running out. By early next week anyone still spinning the same hostile line against the administration has missed their window to back down and save some face.
Yep...these are the same folks claiming President Bush is being stubborn. LOL!
Very nice cheap shot by someone who'll never have his own radio show. But if it makes you feel better, Hannity hasn't flipped. However, he is looking at both sides of the argument - what a concept!
Dude, you crack me up! Got any others, maybe one involving a priest and rabbi on a train?
It means little to nothing to most.
Words and phrases I am sick of:
-treason
-politically tone deaf
-secret deal
-Arabs running our ports
You got Schumer and HRC 'agin it and YOU KNOW it's more than just a red herring... it's a turd with fins.
I happen to love that one...it's in all the press stories and core to most of the arguments...and so patently false.
It's a 30-day review, with a follow-on 45-day investigation if two criteria are met. Apparently CFIUS felt this deal did not warrant the additional time.
Outstanding post!
Thank you. I thought this post was my best. :-)

Now Chertoff is saying he didn't know until the deal was approved! He (Secretary of Homeland security) is a member of CFIUS who was supposed to be in the CFIUS meetings, it needs his approval to go forward. What the heck is going on???
Still working this hard, huh Sasha? :-D
Hate to see you cry!
My neighbors all got excited early this week and could not understand my already being "ahead of the curve" in information. They also disagreed with me, of course! I recommended FR for some reading and links, but they were too busy to do more than call the local Representative and yell! Accepting reality is not their best trait. Their grass is green so they must be able to spread "****" well!
I hope WRAMC is in your plans tonight. Keep warm.
I keep checking for the After-action Reports...they read like a continuing novel.
