Bush would accept slight delay in ports deal-Rove Thu Feb 23, 2006 4:19 PM ET

WASHINGTON, Feb 23 (Reuters) - President George W. Bush would accept a slight delay in permitting Dubai Ports World to acquire a British company that operates six key U.S. ports, senior White House adviser Karl Rove told Fox News.

When asked if Bush would accept a slight delay in implementing the takeover of P&O , Rove said: "Yes, look, there are some hurdles, regulatory hurdles, that this still needs to go through on the British side as well that are going to be concluded next week.

"...calling those who aren't hysterical about it koolaide drinkers."

See, he doesn't even get the analogy right. The Koolaid drinkers had given up all hope of living on earth and wanted to commit suicide. Sounds like hysterical anti UAE crowd to me.

You don't know my opinion on the UAE/port deal. So your little snit is just that, a lil' snit.
Now isn't there a 90 lb. female pinko standing on a street corner somewhere that you and the other tough guys can bully?

Not necessarily - if Congress is infringing on his war powers as Commander-in-Chief, there's not need for the Executive branch to obey un-Constitutional laws.

I give Sean Hannity credit. He said he didn't have all the facts, but his gut feeling was to nix the deal. Then yesterday he read the anti-deal op-ed from the NY Post and the pro-deal op-ed from the Wall St. Journal.

Frist and Hastert sat back, waiting to see what the administration would do. and the administration has made the first move - backing off.

The administration isn't backing off, they're going to give congress enough time to have hearings so they can save face.

This deal is too important FOR national security to give in to a bunch of uninformed people. I think the administration was stunned by the "No A-Rab ferriners" allowed attitude that's been displayed lately.

Or they're giving them enough rope to hang themselves.

Thank God you are not in charge. You want to declare an enemy of people who live in this country- who are law abiding citizens, who happen to be Muslim? What are you going to do- round them up and lock them up?

You want to declare all of the Iraqis and Muslims who have helped our troops, or who are working toward a free Iraq - enemies... How many Muslims do you think there are in the world? Do you advocate killing all Muslims? Because that means a lot more dead Americans too and it would be questionable whether there would ever be peace in this world again.

You want to declare that Muslims are all our ememies-even tho many of them could care less about us. Really Smart move-

I do not embrace Islam- But it is here to stay, we best deal with that reality. We may not like it- but if they do not harm people, it is none of our business who they pray to.

AND I have been around enough law abiding American Muslims to know that *they* do not want to kill Americans.

Making those millions and millions of people our enemies, based on their religion is so stoopid.

Thank God the President understands this.

Because Rove is no longer just a poltical advisor, but now a POLICY advisor as Deputy Chief of Staff - would you rather Andrew Card make this announcement?

I have the feeling Sean is having a hard time admitting that he got sucked into this.

Conservatives whose common sense I've respected (like local talk show host Mark Davis) have been so strident, they simply have no way to back down.

I wrote Davis an email, telling him that he's lost me as a listener until he calms down and looks at the facts.

I've never seen such naked emotion from people who are usually logical.

Yeah, you chose to call names rather than address facts - that was kinda the point of my post, Sweetie. But everyone reading this thread really does know your opinion of this deal, Bitter One! ROTFL!!

As far as your juvenile Pinko slur (very witty, by the way), if you bothered to occasionally read our Support the Wounded Troops threads (you must have some free time - you damn sure haven't been reading up on the Dubai ports deal), you'd know the Pinkos have been chased off their corners.

So to sum it up, everyone. JLA is still ticked because my tagline gives him/her major guilt for his/her utter laziness. :-D

they will have to offer more then just time for hearings. there will have to be additional security measures that DPW agrees to abide by, the job that CFIUS should have done the first time around, will have to be done this time around. the deal can be saved that way, but the administration needs to propose something affirmative, not just play for time in the hope it all blows over.

I expected some political outcry, but I've been stunned at the level of ignorance and animosity regarding this pretty routine foreign acquisition. Especially here at FR. Harry Reid could not have dreamed his little press release would work so successfully.

Hannity is easy to buy off - all the administration has to do is tell him he won't get any more of these softball interviews with Condi and Gonzales and Rummy, and he'll flip based on no additional information.

Can you imagine the ads that could be run against the Democrat Party, who forced this showdown?

"The Democrats. They want to shut the door on a business because it is owned by certain people, even though those people have gone the extra mile to help defeat terrorists.

Can we trust a party with national security that makes judgments based on one's nationality?"

This is going to be fun to watch!!

"f Congress is infringing on his war powers as Commander-in-Chief, there's not need for the Executive branch to obey un-Constitutional laws."

How the heck do you consider this an issue of war powers? Or are you one of those that assume that during war, the President has unlimited power in all realms.

This is a deal between a British firm and the UAE. There is nothing we can do but kick both companies out of our ports. If the President doesn't kick them out it is an act of treason and should be treated as such.

A person being stalked would not hire friends or relatives of the stalker to work on their house. Why should the United States hire a friend and relative of terrorist to work in our ports?

I can understand that people are scared. I really can... Terrorists are frightening.

What I do not understand is how the left or the media has been able to influence otherwise stable and logical people to question the President on something like this.

I do not agree with the Presidents immigration platform and there is some stuff there I do not like- BUT we have not been attacked since 9-11. Does that not count for anything with these people?
