A community college student in Massachusetts faces possible disciplinary action for shouting "Remember Chappaquiddick!" during an on-campus speech by Democrat Sen. Edward Kennedy.
Paul Trost, 20, a student at Massasoit Community College in Brockton, Mass., says he was upset by an introduction of Kennedy given by Rep. Stephen Lynch, D-Mass., in which the congressman noted how the long-time senator overcame hardship in life on his way to success.
"Lynch said Kennedy had overcome such adversity to get to the place he was, and that's a bunch of bull," Trost said of the introduction, which occurred in the school's student center Tuesday morning.
Just as Kennedy began speaking, Trost was walking out of the room when he shouted, "Remember Chappaquiddick!"
"Most of the crowd gasped," Trost said. "Then I walked out of the student center."
The student says a campus police officer went outside and stopped him. He also saw some state troopers go outside, the type who accompany Kennedy around the state to provide security.
Trost says the cop took down his information and told him he would be hearing from school officials about disciplinary action. A spokesman with the campus police verified the incident but stressed that Trost was not arrested.
The student said one of his teachers confronted him after a class about the Chappaquiddick issue.
"One of my teachers called me ignorant and told me this was an embarrassment to the school," Trost told WND. "She said to me, 'Can't you forgive him after all these years?' And I said, 'No, he killed somebody.'
"If it had been me or any other person, we'd be in jail," Trost says he told his instructor.
Referring to his two-word shout, Trost said, "I did it because I know about Kennedy's past. I know what happened at Chappaquiddick.
"I wanted to send a message to him that my generation still knows about it. We haven't forgotten about it."
Trost said he was satisfied to know that students on campus were talking about the Chappaquiddick incident later in the day some of whom, in fact, were not familiar with it.
In 1969, Kennedy was driving a car that went off a bridge on Chappaquiddick Island, off the coast of Martha's Vineyard, Mass. His passenger, Mary Jo Kopechne, was killed after the car landed upside down in the water. No autopsy was ever performed to determine her exact cause of death.
At the time, Kennedy claimed he tried several times to swim down to reach Kopechne to no avail. He came under fire for not reporting the incident to authorities until the next morning. In the interim he reportedly made an effort to call a family legal adviser.
"I haven't yet found out what's going to happen to me," Trost said, referring to the warning from campus police.

Forgive him? FORGIVE HIM? Did they rewrite the state law to drop the statute of limitations on murder?
Is that a word?
Freedom of speech is a wonderful thing.
This student made a terrible error.
In the same period of time, he could have shouted "Chappaquiddick! Chappaquiddick!"
No need to say "remember" in this instance.
He will recieve more punishment and investigation than Kennedy ever did.

Whatchoo doin' off de plantation, boy?!?
Where is the ACLU protecting this guy's rights?
Not only that, at least Cheney got emergency help for his victim. The Swimmer let HIS VICTIM DROWN. Nice guy, eh?
This kid should quit school today and try to leave the state. Nothing he does from now on will work out well for him.
BTW, way to go kid.
Or whether there was a bun in the oven...?
Thank God there are still students with guts. Funny how Ann Coulter can be heckled and have pies thrown at her, but the Man is right there all over Trost for saying two words on the way out....
Liberals just can't take any of what they dish out.
Too funny (because taken as the truth by the lemmings of Mass.). But seriously, folks --
This kid should make a cartoon of ol' Teddy with a vodka bottle coming out of his head and make a t-shirt out of it.
if he was not in the car at the time of the crash my first guess is that she told him she was pregnant? note there was no autopsy.
That is such a well-stated encapsulation of these events that I have saved it to a file.
What a staggering hypocrite this man is.
Well I'm 21, and I get it (mostly due to FR I might add). Sadly, though, I have very little hope for my generation. I say on a regular basis that most young people today are complete sacks of crap (or as Rush puts it "skulls full of mush") and I mean it. It's not necessarily that they're all a bunch of raging libs. In reality, most of them don't care one bit about or know anything about anything that's of any importance to the country as a whole. Pure apathy and stupidity.
I'm not singling out Democrats either. I don't think there was a single person in my College Republicans group that would appreciate FR. The willingness of the members of that group to just be used as blunt political tools come election time with no regard for trying to make even a tiny stir at our liberal campus really opened my eyes and depressed me greatly.
I applaude this kid for actually believing in something and not backing down from it. Yeah, the article says he's a liberal, but he'll be over to our side in a couple years I have no doubt. And don't get me wrong, there are plenty (in absolute numbers) of good thoughtful conservative young people out there (though I haven't met any in years). They are vastly outnumbered by a crop of no-nothings of all stripes, though, so I wouldn't get your hopes up too much. Just my observations from the lion's den.
Extra credit for the first, legal harrassment for the second, could be the reason. I guess going to most colleges these days is sorta like being in the military when there was a draft. Like it or not, you did your job and kept your comments guarded, because you knew you'd be out in a few years.
It did not take much more for me to realize that if anyone actually found the answer to my question, his entire education would be obsolete overnight.
He did not want to even hear anyone mention that it might be a propagated energy form, much like EM radiation.

The REPORTER is continuing the coverup for Kennedy!
Kennedy didn't "attempt" to contact his "family legal advisor" (er, lawyer!)
He SUCCESSFULLY made NUMEROUS CALLS to his lawyers (AND to campaign advisors and other politicians!!!!)
(But NOT to the police/local sheriff/local rescue or tow trucks to try to help the cold, terrified, drowning girl.
