Being a Muslim is "basically a very personal decision," too. This is an excellent article. One point needs clarification, IMO. While it is true that more than 3000 have died since the '79 hostage crisis, the terror campaign against America did not begin 9-11-01.

From 4-18-83 with the US Embassy bombing in Beirut through the 10-12-00 bombing of the USS Cole, 1289 were murdered. That figure includes Pan Am Flt. 73 or Pan Am Flt. 103. While there may be a few non-Americans in that figure, it is far more representative.

With 9-11, there have been 4289 murdered through terrorist acts and approximately 13,260 were injured through those same acts.

As a victim of Islamic terror, I was amazed when I saw Americans waking up on September 12, 2001, and asking themselves "Why do they hate us?" The psychoanalyst experts were coming up with all sort of excuses as to what did we do to offend the Muslim World. But if America and the West were paying attention to the Middle East they would not have had to ask the question. Simply put, they hate us because we are defined in their eyes by one simple word: "infidels."
