The effect it had on the younger generation of Communist Party leaders was profound. It shook their faith in the entire system. Those who came of age under Stalin, didn't change and they tried to hold off the inevitable as long as they could. It took three decades for the dam to break down in the Soviet Union.

They are more subtle these days, and even more dangerous, because of it.

James Angleton claimed that the "Cult of Personality" speech by Nikita Khrushchev was pure propaganda and was meant to confuse the CIA. That was a truly fascinating time
