This is Nikita Khrushchev's great granddaughter's take on the significance of his 1956 speech and her view of the general nature of Russian politics. A good read.

The effect it had on the younger generation of Communist Party leaders was profound. It shook their faith in the entire system. Those who came of age under Stalin, didn't change and they tried to hold off the inevitable as long as they could. It took three decades for the dam to break down in the Soviet Union.

"Our people and our leaders share a belief that only authoritarian rule can protect the country from anarchy and disintegration. They support a ``strong'' state, in which decisions come from the top and citizens are left to tremble with respect and fear".

They are more subtle these days, and even more dangerous, because of it.

It seems Nikita's granddaughter wrote this article in vain..
Let's try to recollect:
Where are Stalin's kids (descendants)?
Where are Khrushchev's kids (descendants)?
Do you feel difference?

Is this the guy and speech you were telling me about on a thread (over a year ago) that slapped the podium with his shoe and said American will be taken down without them firing a shot?

James Angleton claimed that the "Cult of Personality" speech by Nikita Khrushchev was pure propaganda and was meant to confuse the CIA. That was a truly fascinating time
