“We all need to take a moment and not rush to judgment on this matter without knowing all the facts. The President’s leadership has earned our trust in the war on terror, and surely his administration deserves the presumption that they would not sell our security short. Dubai has cooperated with us in the war and deserves to be treated respectfully. By all means, let’s do due diligence, get briefings, seek answers to all relevant questions and assurances that defense officials and the intelligence community were involved in the examination and approval of this transaction. In other words, let’s make a judgment when we possess all the pertinent facts. Until then, all we can offer is heat and little light to the discussion.”

And how do you explain to the Arabs around the world that they are not welcome in a simple business deal with the US that happens all the time between us and UK, German and French companies?

Well, since you've brought up the topic on this thread, I can comment on it without fear of reprisal.

They are operating terminals, not ports.

I've been waiting for someone to say this....most people don't understand that a "Port" is (usually) made up of many different terminals.

With thousands and thousands of miles of coastal lines, the Pacific, Atlantic and Great Lakes, you'd think America might have a Maritime company that could handle these ports and terminals. This whole fiasco is just another great example of how far we've gone in turning our jobs over to foreign countries for King profit, (the real leader of the US). We've become like impotent morons who can't run their own country without foreign help.

Its not just profit...in fact they're not terribly profitable (usually between 5-8% profit on a good year).

Labor unions are one of the biggest reasons that you won't find any American Ownership.

Well, that's the flip side, but it shouldn't be too hard for them to figure out, since most of the people who have committed terrorist acts against the U.S. at home and abroad have been Islamic men of Middle Eastern descent. Not a racist statement, just a fact. And if their leaders are not willing to stand up and denounce terrorism, they are, at least, in passive support of it. We don't owe them any favors.

UAE allready controls and secures much of the cargo that comes into US ports. They have done a good job!

No, not yet!
The arab neighbor cannot yet trust his arab neighbor, so we in the US become somewhat secondary in their internal disfunction.

We're getting there, but there must be trust among neighbors, before their can be trust on the block, in the city, in the region, in the country.

Only once there is internal stability can these untrusting people be brought out of their lifes' misery, and join the rest of the modern world.

Afganistan had made great progress, but I'm concerned about its backsliding and the return of the militants.

As much as I despise Schmucky Schumer his anti-terror and anti-Islamist credentials are impeccable.

Bush needs to get his head out of the sand and realize what a monumental mistake this is.

I've never seen a president so insulated, so completely and utterly divorced, from the sentiment of the majority of the American public on so many critical issues, or more willing to roll over to liberals on bedrock conservative principles.
