Statement by Senator John McCain on the debate over the Bush Administrations decision to allow Dubai Ports World of the United Arab Emirates manage U.S. sea ports.
We all need to take a moment and not rush to judgment on this matter without knowing all the facts. The Presidents leadership has earned our trust in the war on terror, and surely his administration deserves the presumption that they would not sell our security short. Dubai has cooperated with us in the war and deserves to be treated respectfully. By all means, lets do due diligence, get briefings, seek answers to all relevant questions and assurances that defense officials and the intelligence community were involved in the examination and approval of this transaction. In other words, lets make a judgment when we possess all the pertinent facts. Until then, all we can offer is heat and little light to the discussion.

No, the UAE really is helping us a lot in basing our troops, supplying our ships and cutting off funds to the terrorists.
I am really angry and very afraid not because of the deal but because of the very damaging political effect on President Bush and the Republican Party. The President should hold a press conference or issue another statement where he invites the Congress to scrutinize the deal for the next 30 or 45 days and if they see anything very wrong about it, the deal will be renegotiated or canceled. If the President will not do this in the next 48 hours, I am very concerned that his second term is FINISHED, and this is coming from me the most optimistic freeper on FR. Only the capture of Bin Laden, or Zawahiri, or Zarqawi can save President Bush if he insists on his current position.
At the present moment President Bush has put himself in a very damaging, if not fatal, political situation.
And what does ANY of that have to do with MY POST?
And I am not the first one I've seen you do that to; I might remind you that here on FR, it's frowned upon to carry disagreements from other threads to another one.
LOL!
You're right. It's entertaining seeing people pop their corks over this. Maybe it shouldn't be, but it is. People are showing their true colors, and that's always lots of fun to watch.
What does it have to do with your post? Everything.
Cheap shots like calling other FReepers racists are frowned upon at FR, also.
I am highlighting a very clear pattern of you demonizing your opponents with cheap ad hominem smears. Sorry it makes you so uncomfortable. I can see how it would.
Not too long afterward the Japanese were selling to the Arabs who later sold to the British who really owned everything in the first place and will own them again some day.
Why would an ally harbor TERRORISTS?
Don't be deceived. They are NOT our friends. They want to use the United States, to 'buy' what they want.
They will always be good members of the Muslim community, and will put their brothers first.
They would be pleased to bury us. It's their religion.
It really is a shame that this ownership crisis has bubbled up at this time.
Wouldn't it have been much more reassuring, much better, if the US could say:
"We respect your interest in this business transaction:
"It comes at an inopportune time:
"You appear to be allied with the West; now show us that further commitment by helping to calm down the radicals amongst you; show us that you have the gravitas to bring your Arab people into the twenty-first century.
"Then we will award you, and other sane middle eastern companies the ability to share in the wealth of the present world. Until then, we will hold this port opportunity open to you."
I never called any Freepers racist; you're lying.
I made a flat out statement about what BUSH is doing.
I am highlighting a very clear pattern of you demonizing your opponents with cheap ad hominem smears.
No, what you're doing is desperately trying to make yourself RELEVANT; I still stand by my statement that the reaction to Miers was partly sexist.
And if I was somebody running around the forum lambasting people about their support of Miers -- which CLEARLY doesn't have anything to do with this topic -- I'd be careful about who you accuse of using ad hominem smears.
And it's against the forum rules to drag disagreements from thread to thread, but, of course, you've got nothing else, do you?

What race card?
I disagree. This is the perfect time. Either we are indeed racists and think that all Arabs are our enemies (and if so, why is my son trying to establish a democracy in Iraq?) or we are not. It is time to show the Arab street that we mean what we say and that we trust our Arab allies.
I am with you!! I NEVER thought I would agree with anything McCain said, and for sure NOT Jimmy Carter!!
see my post 174
Y'know, this is starting to sound like a BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY for an American company. Wonder if one will step up to the plate? Schmucky Chuckie Schumer told John Gibson that he wouldn't object to Halliburton as an alternative to UAE. Strange, since they HATE Halliburton so much. The RATs have done a 180. They said we were causing terrorism, that we needed to UNDERSTAND and REACH OUT to terrorists...and now, all of a sudden, they agree that terrorists are our enemies?
Then I read an article about McCain and that stupid amnesty program he supports, and breathed a sigh of relief...ahhh, normalcy returns!
>>I still stand by my statement that the reaction to Miers was partly sexist. <<
Well, since you've brought up the topic on this thread, I can comment on it without fear of reprisal.
Your accusation that Miers was opposed for sexist reasons is so asinine as to be humorous. Especially since there were other female candidates who would have not met with such opposition.
The woman was blatantly unqualified, and the administration didn't so much as to ATTEMPT to explain how she was qualified to be a Supreme Court Justice.
But now we are playing the race card by opposing Muslim ownership of our ports in a time of war, just like we were sexists back then? Amusing.
May you have every bit the same success in this argument as you did in the Harriet Miers case. (Hey, you DID bring it up for debate).
Bildo Clinton. LOL! So does his skanky wife.
The Bipartisan Treason Club.
A big AMEN to that!!
Odd note: It looks like Upchuck Schumer may have recently resigned from the Treason Club. Wonder how long he will live.
I didn't know Chucky resigned. I wonder why?
I've been keeping up with CFR news for a few years now. I get an email from them every week or two, telling us what's going on in their corrupt little world. Bill and Melissa Gates, belong. Yasar Arafat belonged to CFR and so do some other Muslims.
They are disgusting enough, but the ones who REALLY yank my chain are the NGOs. It really sux that they meet a couple of times a year to plan OUR future. They want our guns, and they want middle class America destroyed. In their NWO there will only be two classes of people. The wealthy elite and the poor-working class. That's why they intend to take from us to give to the poor. Hilary's already said as much. McCain would do the very same thing.
