ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE (AP) President Bush says the deal allowing an Arab company to take over six major U.S. seaports should go forward and he will veto any bill that would stop it.
I don't trust him on border security and I don't trust him on this.
Americans aren't worried about Dubai's security, they're worried about ours.
You have a point, but this is on our HOME SOIL. 9/11 changed everything. America should be run by Americans, NOT OTHER COUNTRIES!!!
Looks like I hit a nerve. I'm sorry to distress you and I will no longer reply to you with posts that contradict your worldview.
Tony Snow was for it as well.
Bush has changed the focus of discussion. Like a real president does.
Whereas before there were calls to REVERSE the plan and to pull out of the leases, now the same people are just calling for a delay while they collect "more information".
When a person at 9am says something is stupid and should be stopped, and at 4pm says we should collect more information before we go forward, that is a clear indication that at 9am they were speaking out of ignorance.
Even Hannity is backing off ever so slightly, still opposed but hedging with a "more information could change his mind".
And just when did you form this opinion? Probably before you realized that no American companies manage American port operations? YOU MEAN, YOU DIDNT KNOW?
You have my respect for that admission. Others should follow.
Nothing in relations to the above, but I think you have vastly underestimated this issue. Maybe there is secret little plan going on, maybe not. This is a PR nightmare. How about Curacao? Trinidad? Luxembourg? Tibet? But UAE? come on....
Lots of very unfamiliar screennames posting on this thread. Some of them undoubtedly varmints, trying to make FR, conservatives and Bush (or course) look bad and shape public opinion.
Luckily, they tend to look pretty foolish themselves.
Good point, but why doesn't the management of the Port Authority of NY/NJ simply terminate the contract with P&O Ports as soon as the acquisition is finalized?
"Hannity has a kid. Rush doesn't."
Ha! Good point. Getcha case of beer for that one.
You will really see anger by time we get to post #1200. lol
Actually, Rush said from a purely economic standpoint, it's a good deal. But from a post 9/11 standpoint, it's terrible.
I heard just the other day that terrorists do not choose ports for their terror because it is not effecient ie long trip, little damage.
July 4th is exactly right. This is a monumental non-issue being blown out of proportion by the media and some radio talk show hosts.
And I agree with Zogby, it's completely racist to be against giving this contract to UAE simply because they're Arab. Is this the message we want to send to the region? Even if you're our friends and allies in the GWOT, we're going to lump you in with Al Qaeda and treat you like pariahs?
Call me a Bushbot if you like...my gut reaction was to be opposed to this, but the more thought I give it, the more it looks like much ado about nothing.
Uh, I was pretending to be Bush, who's behavior says "we in the government will fight the secret war on terror"
If you read my post carefully, I was pointing out this is a HUGE mistake in judgement.
Like how Bush after 9.11 was just telling us to go about our everyday business.
He needs to INFORM us of what's going on. I have a grip. You keep your grip, too, that's what we need now.
Boy, howdy...are you ever right!!
Oh, well.....I wonder if I will be the only one on the DOSE thread tonight....LOL
I'm "skip reading". If it gets bad, I'll bail. ;)
Man this makes the supreme court nomination {Harrit ding bat} look like a great idea,I'm starting to wonder about Bush he been pulling a lot of boners of late.
