Jesus H. Thanks for the info. My head's spinning. I'm at a loss on Dubya's reasoning on this. I'm gonna go eat another chocolate covered donut, maybe that'll help.

"Dubai is not a terrorist state nor is it sympathetic to terrorists."
You are partly right on both counts. However, please understand that Dubai is NOT a country; it is one of the seven emirates that make up the UAE. So, the discussion about Dubai being a country (sympathetic or not) is essentially wrong.
Second, the UAE (of which Dubai is the most prominent member) was one of 3 countries (along with Saudi Arabia and Pakistan) that actually recognized, aided, and abetted the terrorist Taliban regime in Afghanistan. Their support for militant Wahabbism continues to this day as does their active support for Hamas. There is absolutely no indication that the people or the emirs in UAE have changed their minds after 9/11.
Sorry, but the UAE is definitely a terrorist-sympathetic nation (and I am not even talking about the logistics they provided to the 9/11 murderers).

Is Mr. Sanborn a terrorist now too?!Hmmm, terrorist?,did you see that in my post?.
This is exactly my point!
Why do this?
Because we don't want to offend a bunch of Islamic rulers?

The local ports are all under control of their respective ports authority. DP World will only provide some logistics-related services. They won't be "running" the port by any means.
That being said, this wasn't a smart political move. I think DP World will do a fine job (based on their current work), but still not a good move by the Bush administration.

----Welcome to flatworld, If our enemies have enough buisness ties to us they won't attack us! IN THEORY!---- Yep. China and the U.S. have more business ties than a Men's Warehouse outlet. I could swear I remember the PRC openly threatening to nuke us a number of times over the last ten years, all the same.

Dubai is NOT Saudi....and NOT a terrorist gov't! All Arabs are not our enemies unless we make them into enemies.... Do you trust our nations security to an Islamic State?

I think you have hit the nail on the head there....it is all about the personality cult, isn't it?
Talking truth to those in power should be the primary responsibility of every individual in any society.

"when nothing was said when a British company was in charge." YES, now that I think on it,
said by the MAINSTREAM MEDIA about a Forign British company runnin our ports!
NOW it's become a big deal BY THE MEDIA'S choice of coverage. The MSM is framing the story!

Hey, that's not fair!
Some of us went out and bought boxes of Cheap White Chablis, and are sipping as we type. No matter how deep into the box we get, we wouldn't have pulled this one!
But, then maybe we don't get it because we have been tippling?

The really amusing aspect of all this is, nearly every one of the FReepers who are now claiming "brilliant strategery" on Miers were all adamantly supporting the nomination.LOL - good point. Remember, Bush has a plan for us all and sometimes he moves in mysterious ways. It is not for us to question.
To: buffmonster
I'm especially skeptical on anything or anyone supported by bucktoothed JIMMY CARTER! What is Bush doing getting his support? The King "eulogies" stung? I don't know.

"I could swear I remember the PRC openly threatening to nuke us a number of times over the last ten years, all the same."
Heck, one of their generals has threatened to nuke us several times in the past year alone. But, all is forgiven. They're our friends.
