SEATTLE -- A 6-year-old Bellingham boy is fighting to survive a deadly infection that's killing the tissue in his face.
Jake Finkbonner has necrotizing faciitis, a ravaging bacteria.
Finkbonner was airlifted from Bellingham to Children's Hospital a week ago. He's had three surgeries so far to try to save his life.
The problem started when the boy received a fat lip from a fall at a basketball game.
Jake's father, Donny Finkbonner, said surgeons worked on his son the night he was brought to Children's Hospital in Seattle. "We wanted the truth from the surgeons and they said we’re operating on him to save his life," said Finkbonner.
The boy’s family members said the bacteria were consuming him before their eyes. "He didn’t have any facial features that were identifiable as my little boy," said Elsa Finkbonner, Jake's mother.
Antibiotics wouldn't stop the infection from spreading so surgeons had to cut out the infected tissue.
HOW TO HELP A spaghetti dinner fundraiser is being held for Jake's medical care on Friday, Feb. 24 at 6 p.m. at the Ferndale High School Cafeteria.
Elsa Finkbonner said their faith is giving them strength. "Our son's life is in God’s hands, and it’s out of our control. We just ask for more prayers."
Doctors are making sure they remove all of the bacteria.
The boy is expected to need extensive plastic surgery.
Federalizing charity hasn't shown to be a deterrent to scammers. And it isn't Constitutional either.

If it were funded on a voluntary donation basis, I don't think it would be unconstitutional. Government can appropriately act as a facilitator of activities that individual citizens want to engage in.
He has my prayers. As does his family. I wonder if the doctors could use maggots ( yep maggots) to get rid of the dead flesh and the bacteria it holds. Maggot therapy is used in cases of gangrene.
God bless this little boy and keep him from further harm.

Where does the Constitution empower the federal government to do that?
I was thinking about using DMSO mixed with some antibacterial chemical and applying it to the affected tissue.
DMSO goes right through the cell walls and will transport whatever chemical is mixed with it.
I saw a man of TV that had been sewn up with a stainless steel protractor inside him. He developed the bacterial infection. The Drs. had to leave his stomach open and pack his insides with clorox soaked gauze for weeks to kill the infection.
He lost most of the abdominal wall in the process.
Section 8, general welfare clause. Just because that clause has been abused to justify all manner of abominable wealth-confiscation-and-redistribution schemes, doesn't mean that the clause is no longer a real part of the Constitution. I don't regard it as an abuse for the federal government to facilitate voluntary donation programs, for a charitable purpose which has proven very difficult for the private sector (and state governments) to handle efficiently and effectively.
Hyperbaric Oxygen is effective for killing flesh-eating bacteria. It is suspicious that they don't take him to Virginia Mason for treatments. If anyone can contact the parents, they should be made aware that HBOT is an accepted medical protocol for these types of infection.

DMSO will not ntransport any chemical which is "mixed" with it, and will not necessarily transport any chemical which is attached to it. Depends on the molecular size of the chemical, and on its effects on both DMSO and on cell mechanisms which selectively allow certain substances to enter. DMSO is mighty weird stuff though -- rub it on your leg and soon you'll taste it in your mouth.

These flesh eating bacteria usually move pretty swiftly and I hope that the surgeries, however much follow-on plastic surger is required, can get rid of the bacteria. His having survived this long is a good sign (strange as that may sound).
Who pays for the manpower that goes into administering such a fund? I suspect that my taxes will. What if more federal employees are hired to administer the fund? Would that not feed Leviathan?
Back to the real issue here, may God bless that little boy and his family.

That's encouaging. I wasn't sure if children's had hyperbaric facilities.

DMSO should not be used on open wounds. It is best used for such problems as sore joints, swollen areas and other closed injuries. I have used it on my horse and am familiar with its properties. My husband used it recently for his wrist. Funny that FDA will not approve it but that it has been approved by several European countries.
I will say a Divine Mercy chaplet for Jake. God keep him and his family.
