D.C. Chapter 'Human Shield' Defense of Danish Embassy 2/18/06 (Durka, durka, cartoon jihad)

Honor Roll: BillF, BufordP, Calvin*, Christopher Lincoln, cindy-true-supporter, Dave*, Ed Hudgins, GeorgeTheOther, Iraqikurd, Jimmy Valentine’s brother, Josh*, JoyJoyfromNJ, Kevin*, kristinn, Marylander, Mellora*, Ryan*, Tolerance Sucks Rocks, Tom the Redhunter, Trey*

The D.C. Chapter of Free Republic and friends took a stand for freedom in the face of Islamofascism outside the Danish embassy in Washington, D.C. yesterday.

We were there to counter a protest of the Mohammed cartoons by the New Black Panther Party and other assorted extemist Muslims.

We started gathering in front of the embassy, located on Whitehaven St., NW, at noon, an hour before the radical Muslims were scheduled to arrive following a meeting at an Islamic center a few blocks away on Massachusetts Ave.

In a quirk of fate, the Danish embassy is located directly across the street from the million dollar mansion where Sen. Hillary Clinton lives apart from her husband, former President Bill Clinton. While we sure Her Heinous was relieved that the D.C. Chapter was not freeping her, we didn't want her to think we had forgotten her. We had a special sign made for the occasion.

Cindy-true-supporter and I were first to arrive, promptly at noon. I spoke with the Secret Service officers on the scene and explained our purpose for being there. They told me they'd let us set up in front of the embassy, but if things got dicey we'd be ordered to move.

Freepers slowly arrived and by quarter of One we had enough people to start setting up the 'Human Shield" signs. We also unveiled our misdirection tactic: a sign labeled "Danish Embassy" with an arrow pointing in the opposite direction to the aforementioned house.

We also had a couple signs inspired by Team America: "Durka, Durka" and "Bakala, Bakala, Bakalakalaka." We weren't trying to be antagonistic or incite a riot, but considering the seriousness of the situation and the possibility of violence, we figured we'd get in a few laughs before getting our heads smashed in.

Fortunately for us and everyone else, the Muslim community in the D.C. area is sane enough to not associate with the New Black Panther Party.

The protesters were late arriving. Around 1:30 or so, they started trickling into sight. New Black Panther Party leader Malik Zulu Shabazz, resplendent in not cheap looking African style clothing and designer eyeglasses, led the charge of a dozen radical Muslims up the long hill that is Whitehaven St. Some of the protesters were lugging a portable generator and sound system.

Initially, Shabazz and his group were outnumbered by the Freepers, the media and the Secret Service. It was an underwhelming turnout by Shabazz which set the tone for the day.

We were positioned in a single line in front of bicycle fencing erected by the Secret Service in front of the driveway to the Danish embassy and the neighboring Hellenic Center. The letter signs forming the phrase "Human Shields" were held or propped in front of us. Many of us also held large and small American and Danish flags.

There were not many reporters there: CNN, Washington Post, AP, another unidentified TV camera, a Danish reporter and bloggers extraordinaire Michelle Malkin and Brian Preston (Junkyard Blog.)

As the protesters set up their sound system, we regaled them with a few songs from our vast repertoire: "(All we are saying is) Give Peace a Chance" and the Coca Cola song "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing."

For the next hour-and-a-half we listened to hate-filled speeches from a half-dozen or so speakers. They alternated between trying to convert us to Islam and threatening the West with World War III; and threatening us personally with violence and death.

We chanted things like "USA!" and "Western civ!" We spent alot of our time there laughing ourselves silly at the over-the-top rhetoric of the speakers.

Shabazz was especially ridiculous. His best lines were when he said he was boycotting Danish pastries.

However, Shabazz also was quite menacing--in a cartoonish manner. I was reminded of a Twilight Zone episode with a young Dennis Hopper as a Hitler wannabe who is mentored by the ghost of the Fuhrer, himself.

Shabazz gave racist, anti-Semitic, anti-American, Islamofascist diatribes, in between other speakers who gave, well, racist, anti-Semitic, anti-American, Islamofascist diatribes.

The ranks on both sides eventually swelled to about twenty on the American side and about forty on the Islamofascists' side. Even though the Secret Service hung in the background leaving the two sides about fifteen feet apart with nothing between us, neither side made a move on the other. The Secret Service did warn both sides to not make any provocative moves, however.

We kept up a constant chatter during most of the diatribes. We'd let up if it sounded like they were saying a short prayer (as long as the prayer wasn't one that called for our deaths, LOL.)

Two of their speakers started out sounding reasonable, but damn if they didn't veer off into cloud cuckooland soon after. For some reason, they kept blaming the Jews for their problems. What wasn't the Jews' fault was white people's fault, and America's fault, and George Bush's fault, and Dick Cheney's fault, and Halliburton's fault, and oh yes, the Danes' fault.

They started out complaining about the cartoons, but more often than not, the cartoons were an afterthought.

Shabazz came very close to losing his temper with us. When we pulled "Kumbaya" from our repertoire, he started ranting about how lucky we were the police were present. He pointed his hand at one of us and cocked his hand like a pistol and dropped his thumb down like he was 'firing'.

He did loosen up later though and cracked a Holocaust joke.

All their speakers were men. They didn't let the women with them speak, even when we called them on it. When I tried to speak with one of the women on their side, she was led away by another woman with them.

They only had one sign. It said, "Peace be Upon Muhammad, Jesus and Moses." If only their rhetoric matched that sentiment.

After saying a few times he was going to leave, Shabazz finally ended his cartoon(ish) protest an hour earlier than the announced time of 4 p.m. We serenaded him and his group with the "Nana, Nana, Hey, Hey, Goodbye" song each time he'd say they were leaving. They dragged their portable generator and sound system back down the hill. The Danish embassy was not violated. We had stood our ground--for the Danes and for all of us who cherish freedom.

I'm gonna need a translation to English on those!

But if a believer demands that I, as a nonbeliever, observe his taboos in the public domain, he is not asking for my respect, but for my submission.

Exactly right!

Oh yes that is definately Michelle. I was there with the other Freepers

Check out her website, as she's got a few posts on it and promises more in the future (apparently she and her assistant have had some difficulty editing the video they took)

Brilliant editorial; thanks for posting. Here is just one salient quote, which we see every day with Code Pink, the homosexual lobby, and many other loony leftists in the U.S.:

As a former correspondent in the Soviet Union, I am sensitive about calls for censorship on the grounds of insult. This is a popular trick of totalitarian movements: Label any critique or call for debate as an insult and punish the offenders.

thanks for posting the link to my site. I wasn't actually sure what "durka durka" meant, but now that I've been admonished I'll make the change.

Let's just say there is a good reason why there isn't a written test to get in this organization.
