This is about a bunch of Unions afraid of losing some very high paying jobs, who went to their Democrat whores, who found a way to raise this as a National Security issue. I WANT ONE FREEPER TO TELL ME THAT CHUCK SCHUMER CARES MORE ABOUT NATIONAL SECURITY THAN BUSH!

Any anyone who pays attention to Micheal Savage for any reason beyond entertainment, needs to have their head examined.

Can you provide some links to replies that debunk this? I can't find any.

"What did Chuck Schumer and Peter King have to say about those COSCO and Unocal acquisitions?"

COSCO attempted to negotiate a long term lease of the port of Long Beach during the Clinton administration, but the deal was squelched due to public outcry. China attempted to purchase Unocal just last year, but the deal was squelched due to public outcry. Now, a company run by Muslims is attempting to purchase operational control over six of our largest ports. Ports have long been considered a weakness due to the near-impossibility of inspecting every container passing through those ports. I hope this deal, too, is squelched due to public outcry. If you wish to view this purely as some sort of partisan political ploy, you may want to ask yourself why anyone with any political savvy would walk right into such a thing, with the recent Unocal history, plus the Port Of Long Beach history. Somebody's tone deaf here, and it's not the Conservatives who oppose this acquisition.

ok so a UAE co. owns the ports and a nuke comes in a boat and goes boom. bad.

what if the uae does not own the port? the boat cannot come into port? AFAIK the manifest isn't going to say 'nuke inside, detonate upon arrival'

for so many major us coastal cities i don't see that you have to bring the nuke on land and pass through custonms to accomplish the unthinkable.

this issue of the ports being "sold" is totally meaningless. the operator of the port has more to say about the comings and goings there, then the owner.

"And as Schumer said, those operations will be targeted by terrorists attempting to infiltrate the operations. That's the point.

We know the ports aren't being sold! It's not only some of the dems opposing this deal, Coburn, Foley, King are repubs."

Fine, oppose it all you want along with the people you name above. But could we for the love of God get our facts straight? And don't chalk up the inaccuracy on this to "shorthanding" the language. Nonsense. This is ignorance. And I don't know how terrorist will infilitrate operations any easier than they can now when the port operations will STILL be staffed by Americans, and security still in the hands of the various port authorities. No one has yet explained that one to me.

The nuts on the far right are as intellectually lazy as the nuts on the far left!

Which is why each is ultimately ignored by politicians unless they are receiving checks from them.

Everyone knows the ports are not being purchased. Just because some people use a sort of shorthand to describe this doesn't mean we don't understand the issue. The operations at 6 of the ports are being farmed out to a UAE company.

Even your characterization of what is being proposed is not correct.

P&O Ports operates individual terminals at these ports. In the case of New York/New Jersey, the company operates one out of seven container terminals (actually, they have a 50% stake in the operation).

If there is a terrorist out there looking to do harm to the U.S. by shipping some dangerous cargo through these ports, there isn't a damn thing he could do with a UAE-owned company running that terminal that he couldn't do already.

Unbelievable! I have been reading these responses all day long. Since when did FReepers start taking the spin of the dems and the MSM as the truth? All one has to do is take a few minutes to check this thing out to know it's a bunch of BS.

"And while the Bush folks now consider the UAE a major ally in the war against terror, the Treasury Department has been stonewalled by the emirates, and other Arab countries, in trying to track Osama bin Laden's bank accounts."

Malkin is wrong. The UAE has actually been the most cooperative of the Arab nations in terms of Al Qaeda financing. She is just lumping them in with others like the Saudis, Syrians, etc.

According to a Fox News report here...

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,185107,00.html

"DPW would not be responsible for cargo screening, which is performed by the Department of Homeland Security, but the port operator is responsible for securing cargo coming in and out of the port, the port facility itself and the hiring of security personnel."

Sounds like a security issue to me. Hiring of SECURITY personnel???

The irony of all this is that DWI will operate one of the cargo container facilities with a Danish company.

P & O Ports operates the New York City Passenger Ship Terminal and owns a 50 percent interest in the Port Newark Container Terminal, which is the third-largest cargo terminal on the Port Authority's property. The other half-interest is owned by a subsidiary of Maersk Line, which is based in Denmark

Link

i guess it is time to boycott Danish products now, according to some of the weinerheads in this thread.

all you need are few well placed people in the operations area, to help facilitate the shipment you need to covertly get into the country.

I generally like Savage, after all he is doing the Lord's work with this port deal, but his absolution of Chucky Schumer is incomprehensible and credibility-killing.

Click on my screen name and do a search on my posts in the forum. I've littered many threads on this topic with factual points that clearly conflict with the basic premise of the idiotic story that has been making the rounds this week.

this reminds me a lot of the outcry and blatant disinformation about the Hutchinson-Whampoa leases on 2 ports in panama (balboa and cristobal). I frequently read on fr references to china owning, buying having bought, the canal, and even read about the thousands of chinese troops, etc. I suspect much the same is going on here.

Savage sucking Schumer's toes doesn't surprise me. I think the good doctor despises the President enough to take Hillary home.

"They hindered the Federal Bureau of Investigation's investigation into the bombing of the military barracks in Dhahran."

Whoooa dude, you're talking about the Saudis. The UAE is a totally separate country. Man, first you guys are getting the facts wrong about the ports being sold and now you're not even getting basic Middle East geography right?? Maybe it's time for everyone to quiet down and do some studying before continuing to ignorantly spout on here.

(actually, they have a 50% stake in the operation).

Yes, isn't the company actually 1/2 owned by the Dutch? If so, that means the Dutch will presumably have equal say in the company and any security compliance procedures I would think.

the security cameras may magically be out of service when "Osama & Sons Security", the new security subcontractor hired by the UAE management, just happens to be working that day when the nerve gas is being shipped in.
