New York Sen. Hillary Clinton has put in for a Purple Heart - and she received the decoration yesterday.
The former first lady garnered the award without being wounded in combat - or sustaining any kind of injury at all - as is usually the case with Purple Heart recipients.
Neither has Clinton ever served in the military, though she once claimed in a TV interview she tried to join the Marines.
Instead, Mrs. Clinton received a symbolic award from the Military Order of the Purple Heart "in recognition of her inspirational leadership and dedicated service to Americas military service members and Americas veterans."
"I am honored to receive the Inspirational Leadership Award from the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Hillary said, in a statement posted to her web site announcing the award.
"The Purple Heart medal symbolizes service and sacrifice to our nation. I consider it a privilege and duty to work on behalf of combat wounded active duty servicemembers and veterans and I will continue to make them one of my top priorities."
The former first lady's web site also noted that "Senator Clinton has been an unwavering champion in the fight to recognize the heroism of those who have received the Purple Heart" by co-sponsoring legislation for a Purple Heart commemorative stamp.
Clinton's statement went on to explain:
"The Order of the Purple Heart for Military Merit, commonly known as the Purple Heart, is the oldest military decoration in the world in present use. The Purple Heart is awarded in the name of the President of the United States to members of the Armed Forces who are wounded in conflict with an enemy force, or while held by an enemy force as a prisoner of war, and posthumously to the next of kin of members of the Armed Forces who are killed in conflict with an enemy force, or who die of a wound received in conflict with an enemy force."
In a 1994 interview with ABC News, Mrs. Clinton recounted her efforts to join the Marines when she was 27-years-old.
"Gee, now it was probably 19 years ago - in 1975," Hillary said at the time. "I decided that I was very interested in having some experience in serving in some capacity in the military."
She remembered telling the recruiter, "I wanted to explore - I didn't know whether I thought active duty would be a good idea, reserve, you know, maybe National Guard, something along those lines."
But leatherneck Hillary's bid to enlist soon crashed and burned, when the Marine recruiter told her: "You're too old."
"Maybe the dogs [Army] would take you," he offered.
Hillary (and Kerry) are doing to the PH what Jimmah Carter did for the Nobel Peace Prize.
The military HATER gets an award like this? I'm gagging at my desk. Turns my stomach.
But that was before "Don't ask, don't tell" was the rule. Back then they would never allow a lesbian to join.
Instead of "Her Cold, Heartless Bitchiness", she will now have to be referred to as just "Her Cold Bitchiness"...
Thanks for posting that picture--it's one of my favorites. :)
Lets see - the House and Senate combined total about 435 people. Minus John I was in Vietnam Kerry that leaves 434. Lets knock off 75% of what is left - that leaves about 108. She was the best choice out of the remainder?
Hmmm
I now have to wonder if the FBI files covered more than just the Clintons immediate list of political enemies, as large as it was.
I don't have a Purple Heart - very lucky considering a decade in SpecOps. If I did, I would immediately ensure that my name was removed from that group's memebership lists!
Dunno, but one thing I do know, is that the worst job on earth this morning is the job of the person answering the phones at the MOPH offices. ;)
Maybe she planned the Battle of Waco.
Now she'll probably wave this is front of voters' eyes in 2008.
"True.
But it will be interesting to see if Hillary's award surfaces much in
the media.
Maybe it will.
But I suspect that her buddies in the MSM won't push it much, knowing
that it will increase the disgust many voters feel over this mendacious
carpetbagger."
Yes, there is a real story there - just not the one that NewsMax published.
It's not as bad as giving it Kerry - she has been mildly supportive of the military... but there have been a number of more unwavering choices they could have selected. I looked up some of the leadership of MOPH, they seem to be largely Republican - maybe this is a deliberate attempt to reach out to Democrats who are not trashing the war.
Leiberman would seem to have been a better choice if they wanted a Dem.

I'm thinking maybe they wanted a Senator who was a Democrat and hasn't trashed the war. I guess we can't use Lieberman for everything.
I'm curious....did anyone on Flight 93 get any award from this lot for actually fighting and dying for their country on 9/11?
The Clintons sure know how to play the game. It's nauseating.
Mrs. Clinton's world is truly The Bizarro World.

Incredible. I thought it was a joke.
'Contact Us'!
How blatantly untrue! Look, I hate the Hildebeest as much as the next guy, but don't take a situation where she receives an honorary award (probably steered some tax dollars towards the Military Order of the Purple Heart), and make the insinuation that she's received THE Purple Heart.
You know, republicans can make their case easily enough against the democrats. Why we should have engage in this kind of slanted propaganda campaign is beyond me. It's childish.
Now look what you've done -- you made me defend Hitlery. I think I'm gonna be sick!
Agreed. I noticed a LONG time ago. The sad part is that the people they write about need no fabrication to still be bad.
