New York -- For days, the White House news corps has pounded the Bush administration, demanding to learn more about Vice President Dick Cheney's accidental shooting of a hunting companion Saturday.

Cheney finally addressed the incident Wednesday, but the forum in which he chose to do so -- in an exclusive interview with Fox News host Brit Hume -- quickly became another source of contention.

Thanks for the info. THAT was actually helpful. To be honest, I really haven't been paying that much attention to this story.. cause, I didn't see it as any big deal.

Now, as best I can tell... Cheney didn't go with Mr. Whittington to the hospital because, too many medical assistants were going. So, he went back to the ranch house. The Secret Service called the Sherriff right away...good. But, no one from "outside the security ring" saw, or even talked to the VP until Sunday morning. This is not really a good thing.

Already today, there are calls for the hospital to release the BAC of Mr. Whittington. Since, it seems NO ONE is going to be able to prove that Mr. Cheney was sober, the left will continue to HOUND AWAY on this story... for all time.

It angers me that we have to put up with this... If he had only seen someone, ANYONE! Even the reporter for the local paper. Maybe they weren't "drunk", but had consumed more than "one beer". They knew the results would be awful. Maybe.. they had NOTHING to hide. So, why hide?

This is going to continue to be a mess, because the MSM will make it one and there is NO WAY to refute them.

Yea.... I don't care though. I'm not afraid of "hate posts". I am confident in my own conservative philosophy.

For the record though.... I have always LOVED the VPOTUS. I am from Texas, and have hunted game. I've also (Although I officially deny this) been invloved in a "minor" traffic accident where I delayed seeing local authorities until my "breath smelled better". (not too proud of that)

My gut tells me there is no reason to worry. But, in a high profile public position like the VPOTUS, any suspicion should have been disspelled. Who to doesn't matter to me. Bottom-line is... This was NOT handled in a professional manner. And, we will continue to see the result of this mistake.

Hey JACK CAFFERTY! How about this for dealing with accidents!

http://www.pedalpushersonline.com/html/cafferty2003.html

CNN ANCHOR Jack Cafferty "Brushes" a Cyclist, What can we learn from this?

August 5th 2003, Jack Cafferty, that charming curmudgeon on CNN's Morning News Broadcast made his own news by pleading guilty to using his Cadillac with Jersey Press Plates to ruin bicyclist Billy Maldonado's day on May 14th. It appears that the "sudden turn" made by Cafferty "knocked Billy" off his bike, which the Caddy then dragged for several blocks as five people attempted to get Cafferty's attention and stop him, to no avail!

According to NBCSandiego.com, "A traffic officer and about five pedestrians ran after Cafferty's car to stop him after the accident, but Cafferty drove through at least two red lights and around other vehicles without stopping, according to a police complaint" and it gets better "Cafferty later told police that he had seen a man on a bike who may have been a messenger weaving in and out of traffic as Cafferty drove south along Ninth Avenue around 10:25 a.m. When Cafferty looked in his mirror, he saw the man getting up off the ground but was unaware he had hit the bicyclist, the anchor told police." Maldonato who was knocked to the ground suffered bruises and according to his lawyer he needs an operation on his right elbow.

Not that this is a function of his celebrity status or anything like that, but it seems that Cafferty was allowed to plea down to... are you ready... are you really really ready? Operating a motor vehicle knowing, or having cause to know, that property damage had been caused. He was fined $250 and given SIX MONTHS to complete 70 hours of community service! Gee, I wonder if we could get him too run a bike club?

For his part, Cafferty surprisingly had no comment, but the criminal complaint said that he told police that he had seen the Bicyclist get off the ground, but that he didn't realize that he had hit him. "I am unaware I was in an accident," he said. Famous last words!

It is this writer's opinion that had Cafferty been reporting this story, his typical offhanded disdain would show through drippingly as he inferred his repugnance at the actions of the driver. Isn't it strange how the worm turns when the shoe is on the other foot? So bear in mind once again that the only one you can truely rely upon for your personal safety while riding amongst traffic is you! For more help with riding strategies check the article on Road Riding Safety to the left of this page! And perhaps, allow your disdain to show through by clicking off when certain celerities are on the air?

"This was never anything more than a traffic incident. It was resolved as a traffic infraction. Jack acted responsibly in this, as he always has," said Cafferty's attorney, Seth Rosenberg.

CNN's Cafferty pleads guilty to hit-run in New York

By KAREN FREFIELD
Newsday

NEW YORK -- Like most journalists, CNN morning anchor Jack Cafferty would prefer to cover news than make it.

Especially when it's bad news.

But Tuesday, Cafferty was the story, being met by photographers as he entered a midtown court to plead guilty in a May 14 hit-and-run accident. According to the criminal complaint, Cafferty was made an abrupt turn and hit bicyclist Billy Maldonado.

About five people tried to stop Cafferty by running after the car, according to the complaint, but the newsman continued through at least two red lights, while dragging the bicycle underneath the vehicle. Maldonado, 48, who was knocked to the ground, suffered bruises and some bone damage.

Cafferty was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, assault and harassment. He was allowed to plead guilty to a traffic violation: Operating a motor vehicle knowing or having cause to know property damage had been caused. He was sentenced to 70 hours of community service, with six months to complete it, and a $250 fine. He also made restitution.

On CNN, commentator Jack Cafferty called the interview "a little bit like Bonnie interviewing Clyde. ... I mean, running over there to the Fox network -- talk about seeking a safe haven."

...you mean like Hillary being interviewed by Katie Couric?

The sheriff's statement that there won't be any charges filed should help take a lot of the air out of this story. I'm sure the media will try to flog it along for another couple of days, and there will be lots of muttering and rumor mongering about whether Cheney bought off or threatened the local authorities, but if the left really tries to push that angle it will blow up in their faces, badly. They already look sleazy enough with peddling the rumors about the hunting party being wasted and the rumors about Cheney having an affair.

it probably is just the normal way powerful people handle little-people tasks they cannot get out of: they schedule them, even if it is something like this than little people would NEVER be able to schedule.

It is very possible he wanted to make sure there was a handle on the local LEO and that they weren't flagrant democrats who would see this as an oppty to use this for overt political gain. This would be normal defensive thinking and quite rational given his position.

Mr Chaney was not drunk..That seem to be the one of the liberals stories..Are you sure you are not a liberal..It is funny thought that there is no news in the world beside this accident..Why didn't the democratic senator's wife (name held back) get put in jail for having a fight with a woman in a bar and no charges were filed against her..Never heard anything about that on the MSM.. I do get a kick out of liberal stuff because the public is getting more and more of how stupid these one track minds are..The public is getting a taste of the ignorant liberals..I think it is time to let this go before election time...They keep shooting themselves in the foot..

We can laugh at all this because it is soooo funny..As for the man that was shot they reason they kept him in intensive care is because of the media crazies keep their them away from him..That was the report I got...

Well Beth, I like your confidence. Since you are so sure, I assume you were in the hunting party. No? Oh well, then...you're just assuming, same as me. That's ALL that is required for the wacky libs to carry on their rant. Don't worry, they will.

And, as long as NOTHING FURTHER comes out about alcohol, they will come off looking like fools.

I bet.... the VP is wishing he hadn't even had that "one beer", or.. that he had spoken with someone on Saturday night.

Good news in the Sheriff's statement. I'm not sure, but with Kennedy county being in South Texas, there's a decent chance they're Democrats. Not many left in Texas except, Austin, Beaumont, and the "Valley".

I hear Mr. Whittington will speak today. If he's as sharp as he looks in the photo, I wouldn't be surprised if he NUKES the rumours. I also read last night that NO BAC was taken on Mr. Whittington. So, there should be NO records. That will keep the nuts talking, but.. they aren't likely to have any proof now.

Yes you are right I was not in the hunting party and neither were you or the slimy media..So it is time for everyone to let this stuff go and move on to another topic..I wonder if the media knows how many times the president goes to the bath room every day maybe that would be a good story..Wonder why we haven't heard anything about the murder of Vince Foster..all the media seemed to be satisfied with the old witch and the perverts and chiefs version of that..The drinking and driving of Fat Teddy...my mistake that isn't a story at all is it..
