Hoping to better capture the attention of African-Americans and close the achievement gap between black and white students, a group of parents and educators is pushing for adoption of an African-centered curriculum in Evanston/Skokie School District 65.
The curriculum would keep state-required core subjects such as reading, language arts and math but include the history and culture of Africans and African-Americans in daily school lessons.

Well...the truth about the Arab slave trade won't go over big with the black muslims.
Sounds okay to me - don't forget some U.S. history as well.
Oh yeah-- that will prepare them to take their place in a stable democracy with a vibrant economy.
African History, IMO, is something better off forgotten.
Going back to the failed "identity" programs of decades ago, sure is a stupid move in the wrong direction. What black students need is to stop being "black" and to start being Americans.
Let me axe you if "language arts" be Ebonics.
Finally, a plan that will reduce the cost of "education"..

I have been to over a half dozen countries in Africa. There is nothing there worth emulating. Nothing to learn from them, nothing of any importance came out of Africa.
