Band Of Brothers

Read:
Colossians 1:24-29

I . . . fill up in my flesh what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ. —Colossians 1:24

Bible In One Year: Leviticus 17-18; Matthew 27:27-50

cover Of all Shakespeare's great plays, Henry V may rank as the most heroic. In one stirring scene, the English army stands fearfully before superior French troops. King Henry challenges his men to take heart. Because the battle will be fought on "the feast of Crispian," their victory will be remembered in its yearly celebration. The king tells his men, "This day is called the feast of Crispian . . . . We in it shall be remembered; we few, we happy few, we band of brothers."

Today, the US Marine Corps refers to itself as a "band of brothers." There is something about interdependence and personal sacrifice while under fire that binds people together for life.

Christians facing opposition can also have such a bond. Paul wrote, "I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up in my flesh what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ" (Colossians 1:24).

Did Paul believe Christ's suffering on the cross was insufficient? No, His atonement was completely adequate for all our sin. What Paul meant was that as we complete Christ's work on earth amid painful opposition, we share in His sufferings. Jesus suffered for obeying the will of God, and so must we. But like Paul, we can find joy as we draw closer to our Lord and our band of brothers and sisters. —Dennis Fisher

Oh, how we need support in times
Of suffering and despair—
Upheld with love by saints of God
Who understand and care. —D. De Haan

Suffering can be a magnet that draws the Christian close to Christ and fellow Christians.

Hiya everyone! What a great idea for a thread! Right up my alley. :)

My old man, rest his soul, joined the USMC on his 17th birthday 1n 1942. He retired in 1970 when I was 11 years old. Being a military brat is one of the primary definers of my life. My brothers and sisters and I were all born and raised "on base", and every one of us has very fond memories of being a part of the Marine Corps family.

We've lived on base in Kaneohe, Hawaii; Cherrypoint, North Carolina; and El Toro, California. Our Dad was stationed a few other places, including Japan in 1945, The Philipines, Korea, Guantanamo Bay, Vietnam, and "some rock" as he was prone to say when he didn't want to say.

God Bless all of you service people out there. Thanks for making my life a blessing from day one!

And thanks dad, if you're looking down on me from heaven, for making me a MarineBrat!

Good Morning troops! Good Morning everyone! My dad was in the Navy, but I'm not an actual military brat because he got out a little over a year before I was born. Anyway, I'm actually going to work with my dad today instead of school because of the major nosebleed I had last night (The doc put me on nasal spray a couple weeks ago for my sinuses which is probably the reason). But you're not supposed to take anti-inflammatory medicines (which includes over the counter stuff like Tylenol, Advil, Motrin, and Aleve) which are the very same medicines I take to keep migraines away. And as my dad so very eloquently put it, "There's no point in sending her to school if she can't make it through the day." (so that really wasn't very eloquent, but I couldn't think of another word). Anyway, here is today's humor attempt.

An Army brat was boasting about his father to a Navy brat.

"My dad is an engineer. He can do everything. Do you know the Alps?"

"Yes," said the Navy brat.

"My dad has built them."

Then the naval kid spoke: "And do you know the Dead Sea?"

"Yes."

"It's my dad who's killed it!"

Good morning, Everyone. Good morning to our

Military, our Allies, and their families.

Thank you, Tibby, for preparing the Canteen for today’s activities. Kudos to the Military Brats of this world. Without your sacrifices and perseverance, your parents would suffer the challenges of a military career much more. You help them be all that they can be by rolling with the "punches."

You know, Tibby, I'm known as a brat, just not a Military Brat! I think I got that reputation cause I've been known to throw a temper tantrum a time or two.

But, anyway, I was wondering if I could hang out with you Military Brats since I've been called a Brat? Huh? Huh?

Ok, y'all. Ready for another incredibly exciting installment of Fun and Interesting Facts? Ok, stop squirming in your seats, here it is:

Good morning Canteeners, Cubies, Newbies Troops and kids! Hope everyone had a terrific Valentine's Day; Political Virgin was very pleased with the roses I gave her. Still laughing here at Lanny davis on the radio todsay calling for cheney to hold a press conference re: his shooting spree (their words not mine). Poor Lanny, born with a voice like Wally Cox.....must be fun listening to him argue a case! Have a great day all!
