Okay. So I won't limit my scorn to the Comical but will extend it to MSN as well. :) Seriously, would it be that hard to title the story "Man Accidently Shot by Cheney Suffers Heart Attack?" Victim is a loaded word.

What do you want me to say? I don't know Harry Whittington, forgive me if I'm not all up in arms with concern with whether or not he lives or not. I hope he doesn't die, but if he does, his death won't be the news story will it? It will be that Dick Cheney actually killed a man and I want to be prepared.
So again, does anyone know if there's a chance Cheney could still be in legal trouble if Whittington dies?
To: Cyclopean Squid
CNN says "heart scare"
They are now dispatching 2 dozen crews to cover the story and hope the man dies.

I just saw a Yahoo headline re "Gay Gene" Robinson is drying out in a rehab.
Stand aside and let the MSM barrage of "brave" and "courageous" and "acceptance" begin.
The media has called VP Cheney everything but a serial killer over an accident. They will exalt Golden Robes for being a bona fide drunken homosexual.

I seriously doubt it. Most manslaughter statutes still require some level of mental culpability. Sometimes things are pure accidents...but that'll be up to the local DA. And if the victim (or his family) doesn't want to pursue charges, the DA is less inclined to charge.

If he were to die, is there still the remote possibility that Cheney could be charged with manslaughter?
I'm no expert on the law, so that qualifies me to give my 2 cents.
I'd think he'd have to be charged. People are charged with accidental deaths all the time. I doubt if it would go to trial, and I doubt he'd be convicted, but it would open it up to a "wrongful death" lawsuit against Cheney by the victim's family.
Whether that would happen or not, is a question I can't answer. Under these circumstances, and with the victim being a good friend of Cheney's, I'd think they'd probably negotiate something out of court.

You know damn well if it had been somebody like say Al Gore, who had shot somebody, we'd be screaming for Al Gore to be frog marched into prison.

Yes it would be. I think they have computer software that would automatically change whatever phrase to a loaded phrase. You know, just in case one of the editors accidentally feels some compassion or lets the truth slip through.

This may be bad timing to suggest this, but it's now a good time for Cheney to step down, and Mike Pence from Indiana replacing him as VP...AND grooming him as the future President of the United States in 2008.

Prepared for what, a subpoena? Why, are you a witness or something? ;)

Maybe you, but if it was a genuine accident (your Gore hypothetical), why would I want an innocent man go to jail? I don't think Freeper would support putting an innocent man in jail. That sounds very DU like...

You know damn well if it had been somebody like say Al Gore, who had shot somebody, we'd be screaming for Al Gore to be frog marched into prison. You should have worded your sentence this way:
"...if it had been somebody like say Al Gore, who had shot somebody, accidentally..."
Of course, then the argument makes no sense.
