One can find some degree of empathy for Al Gore. When a candidate has lost the presidency by a mere 520 votes, it could well have an emotional and psychological effect on his personality. While those 520 votes tossed the Electoral College toward George Bush, the former vice president clearly knows he won the popular vote in 2000, so his defeat must be particularly grating.
Under such stress, perhaps he should return to his spiritual roots and read Psalms or Proverbs or even the book of Job for consolation. Or perhaps seek a secular therapist.
However, this week he told a Saudi audience that the United States has committed "terrible abuses" against Arabs. After 9-11, America began "indiscriminately rounding up Arabs" and held them in "unforgivable (prison) conditions." The former vice president also said the tougher standards the State Department now has for handing out visas "was a mistake."
Ignoring the fact that its bad taste to criticize your own government when youre overseas and hardly in a land of Jeffersonian democracy Mr. Gore is just wrong.
Fifteen of the 19 hijackers on 9-11 were Saudis, so the government should be very careful in approving any more Saudi visas. A number of Arabs were rounded up after 9-11 and most were found to be in violation of immigration laws. Usually, that is a misdemeanor but it became a serious matter after the World Trade Towers were attacked. The Arabs rounded up were held in routine prisons under the same conditions as other inmates. Almost all were given written notice of their charges within 30 days. (A courtesy many other governments including the one in Saudi Arabia would not have bothered with.)
Plus, President Bush hasnt exactly played hardball with the Saudis. Weve urged them to democratize their institutions but only Al Gore could complain weve been too tough with the Saudi government.
As noted, one can extend understanding to Mr. Gore due to the traumatic events of 2000, but our patience is wearing thin.
'Course, if they (Florida) had allowed the absentee vote from their military peop;le to be counted, the margin would most likely have been decidedly larger.
Also who knows how many of those ballots were altered or otherwise relegated to the phony bin because of people like that democRAT party official caught driving around with a ballot-punching machine in the trunk of his car.
We'll never know just what the actual results of that Florida vote were.
Does anyone have the contxt of his speech / remarks?

Gore hit a new low...
I agree.
Yes and if the hate toward an America first, which is the popular view today, were the same back then we very likely would have lost WWll!
These people like the Clintons, Al Gores, the anti-American Democrat Party, the RINOS and many others who are also stabbing America in the back would be in charge.
It is scary as hell just thinking about that scenario but thanks be to the Most High God He is still in control!
Don't forget the military absentee ballots that were thrown out.
The man is insane.
"Just 521 votes would have given us a Gore presidency."
The elimination of fraud would have given Gore a sound defeat.
Everybody talks about how "close" the election was, but the real situation is that the demonrats just fell a little short on their criminal behavior.
If all the legitimate votes had been counted, and none of the fraudulent votes, Bush would have walked away with it easily.
Oh, sorry, the point of what I just said is that, instead of campaigning harder for votes, the Pubs need to work harder at keeping the demonrats from getting away with their crimes.
You nailed it. I can never forget that he was on his way to make his concession speech, in fact had already conceded to Gov. Bush, when his campaign manager called and the no-class POS Gore then called Gov. Bush and and withdrew his concession... I was stunned when I heard that later in day. You are so right, he had the chance to be graceful in the interests of his country, like President Nixon, but he couldn't. What a classic representative of the modern Dem party. You are so right, they have run out of excuses. They are either ignorant or evil and have no class.
"One can find some degree of empathy for Al Gore. When a candidate has lost the presidency by a mere 520 votes..."
That is BS.
Let me tell you a little story about a man called Walter Mondale. He was the VP to Carter and ran against Reagan to be President and lost all States except for one, his home State.
AL Gore lost his home State. So you can forget all about Florida, Gore did not lose by 521 votes as far as I am concerned, he lost because the people of his home State voted against him because they know what a jerk he is.
And that is why he moved to SF (where all the jerks live).
Gore DID win the popular vote total:
(a) U.S.Citizens voting for Gore.
(b) Illegal aliens voting for Gore.
(c) Multiple voters for Gore.
(d) Deceased for Gore.
(e) Felons for Gore.
(f) Re-punched ballots for Gore (courtesy Dem Party vote workers).
Total of (a)..(f) came up to greater numbers than Bush who merely had (a) U.S.Citizens voting for Bush.
Excellent point. Nixon lost a close race, but he gracefully dusted himself off after his narrow loss and tried again by running for Governor in California then for President again. Gore lost a close race and tried to sue his way to the Presidency, put on a substantial amount of weight soon thereafter and gives angry, bitter speeches to trash the man he couldn't defeat. What a contrast.
He knows the military votes were not counted.
He knows that massive fraud was committed in every demonrat county in America.
He can lie to the world but the truth is still the truth.
albore lost BIG TIME.
Would that it were so! As it happens, there are plenty of them to go around.
Re post 5. Excellent point and WTH are the republicans doing to make sure the "dead vote" is supressed next time.
