Ann Coulter...was definitely Friday’s biggest draw at CPAC 2006.

From the get-go the conservative columnist had the crowd cheering and was frequently interrupted by applause.

Many of Coulter’s talking points came from recent news events -- such as “the great Danish cartoon caper” and President Bush’s Supreme Court nominees.

“Muslims are the only group who kill because people call them violent,” she said of Islam’s rage over the printing of Muhammad cartoons.

Speaking about the nation's highest court, Coulter not only expressed elation at Justice Samuel Alito’s confirmation, she also shared her feelings on Chief Justice John Roberts ...

She had fun impersonating Sen. Hillary Clinton, mocking Clinton’s MLK Day remarks on “the slave plantation” in the House of Representatives, adding: “And you know what I’m talkin’ about, girlfriend.”

“I can say that by the way,” Coulter said. “My party freed the slaves.”

Democrats have three major planks, she explained: “Abortion on demand, gay marriage and banning the Boy Scouts.

Someday they’ll find a way to combine them all and figure out how to abort all future Boy Scouts.”

But look at the positive side. There ought to be much more room in the Big Tent for you party-above-principles types, what with the exodus of 30%+ of your base--so you'll be able to fit a lot more RINOs into that tent now.

Those third party goofballs that you hobknob around with aren't even polling above 5% in most elections. Where'd you come up with that 30%+ figure besides your head?

Amazing how Ann can say we should nuke all Muslim nations and convert them to Christianity -- and freepers laugh it off and worship her -- but when Tancredo says we could theoretically take out Muslim holy sights in retaliation if they destroy ours, he gets skewed as a "nutcase".

Were you around during the Miers debacle of a nomination? Miss Coulter was not welcome among the GOPians, naturally for her insistence that a pick for the Supreme Court have things like qualifications and requisite knowledge of law and the Constitution.

As a matter of fact, many of the Freepers who called Tom Tancredo a "nutcase" made some of the most vile and disgusting comments about Ann Coulter.

ANN is an attention grabbing, mouthy elitist, and the Miers incident made me lose all respect for her.

Many people don't understand what's been going on with Ann Coulter over the last six months or so; I think I do. Anyone familiar with The Conservative Bookshelf (2004)? It's a compilation of the best conservative literary works going all the way back to the Bible. Anyways, let me read you the germane portion of Booklist's review of TCB, since it is telling:

Williamson presents 50 selected books in declension of categories, beginning with theology and ending with contemporary affairs. Book number 1 is the Bible; book 50 is Treason, by Anne Coulter, despite her support of the Bush administration.

That's what I thought. The sentiment among some contemporary conservative thinkers--ones that don't have shows on FOXNews, so they're actually thinkers--was that Ann was merely a pale mouthpiece for an administration that was, at best, a little questionable with regard to its conservatism. Sure, it's easy to say, "Democrats bad, Republicans good," till you're ten shades of blue in the face; it is quite another to have real bona fides in the eyes of intellectual conservatives. It is also interesting to note that TCB was published in September of 2004, if only to establish a time line to present day.

Coincidence? Possibly, but there's something to be said for peer pressure.

That would be my guess.

I assume you've read at least a decent amount of Ann's writing--maybe one or two of her books and at least a few columns from Human Events in the last year or two. She does use all of the things you've mentioned to make a point. But when she was doing it against Democrats/liberals, there was no outrage (from conservatives in general, not you or anyone in particular). The reason that I stopped reading Coulter is because, although Ann has an incisive wit and is well read, she uses the above mentioned tactics--at all! Not a desirable quality in a writer, speaker, and so on, unless propaganda is your aim.

If you have to slander someone--even if they are a lib--what good can come of it? Why accept lies and distortions, even if you believe that you're right?
