Cambridge, Md. -- The eavesdropping tables were turned on President Bush on Friday. The president apparently believed he was speaking privately when he talked about listening in without a warrant on domestic communications with suspected al-Qaida terrorists overseas. But reporters were the ones doing the listening in this time.
The incident happened at a House Republican retreat. After six minutes of public remarks by the president, reporters were ushered out. "I support the free press, let's just get them out of the room," Bush said,

That allowed journalists back at the White House to eavesdrop on Bush's defense of the eavesdropping. Did they get approval from FISA before listening?
If not, why aren't charges pending? Where's the investigation?

Speaking to the whole repubican house conference is hardly speaking privately.
No politician in there right mind would say anything that could get them in trouble in that situation. Leaks always come out of those meetings. Who would say anything incriminating with chris shays in the room.
I can see if it was a private meeting with bush and his staff but this isn't private at all.

Musician's Friend calls them "mics". When pronounced, it sounds like somebody is trying to tell an Irish joke.

"If they're called "mics," wouldn't this offend our Irish-American friends?" Yup. See my #44.

When Al Gore was touring Monticello with Clinton, he asked who the busts of George Washington and Benjamin Franklin were. That was also caught by the press covering the visit, but I don' recall it getting this much press.

This was a big yawn. I'm getting so sick of the media wanting GWB's head just because he got out of bed in the moring.

"Maybe because after covering Clinton for so long, they can't believe that a president would say in public the same thing as he would say privately."Probably also that every other word was not an expletive.
Of course, talking in expletives probably endears someone to the press.

A person who says in private what he says in public IS news to the MSM. At least, with regards to a person they can't ignore.
To: My2Cents
And why does the AP consider this news?Because the MSM knows that their readers (the LEFT) don't read entire articles, no matter how short they are, or very well. Either situation results in the typical "gotcha" reaction from the Bush-haters.

I actually heard the "open" mic comments.
I'll let you in on a little secret. I think it was a Rovian plot to leave the microphone on. It was wonderful, and I'm sure the American people enjoyed the comments. Especially when the President was just the same man he always is. President Bush is certainly no Slick Willie. And for that I say: Thank God!!

We had a nice one of these in Australia the other day - the Premier of New South Wales forgot a mike was on, and was overheard telling the Premier of Victoria (they're both socialists) that the Chief Executive of one of Sydney's biggest public works projects was a 'f***wit'.
