BEIRUT (AFP) - The leader of the Lebanese fundamentalist Shiite movement Hezbollah claimed that if Muslims had executed British novelist Salman Rushdie others would not dare to insult Islam.
Iran's revolutionary leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini issued a fatwa or religious edict in 1989 demanding Rushdie's execution over his best-selling novel the "Satanic Verses," deemed blasphemous and insulting to the Prophet Mohammed.
"If there had been a Muslim to carry out Imam Khomeini's fatwa against the renegade Salman Rushdie, this rabble who insult our Prophet Mohammed in Denmark, Norway and France would not have dared to do so," Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah said in remarks published Thursday .
Muslim anger has continued to swell over the publication of cartoons depicting Mohammed wearing a bomb-shaped turban in the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten and several other European papers.
"I am sure there are millions of Muslims who are ready to give their lives to defend our prophet's honour and we have to be ready to do anything for that," said Nasrallah, whose movement is backed by Iran.
"We do not understand the rationale of the Danish authorities who refuse to apologize under the pretext of freedom of expression."
Rushdie had to go into hiding after Khomeini branded him an apostate who had to be punished by death.
An Iranian charitable foundation has offered a 2.8 million dollar bounty for Rushdie's head.
In 1998, Iran's then foreign minister Kamal Kharazi promised his British counterpart Robin Cook that Tehran would do nothing to implement the fatwa, although Khomeini's successor Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said in January 2005 that Rushdie still deserved to die.
In a recent interview Rushdie said he now travels quite freely and openly and doesn't worry about the fatwah. (Maybe it expired.)
How do you call for your members to kill a man under a fatwa without calling for one of your members to kill a man under a fatwa???
Piss on them. Flood the newspapers, internet and the media with caricatures of their precious pedophile murdering thug they call a prophet. Why the civilized world gives this moonbat religion the time of day is beyond me. It's wrong on so many levels and to acknowledge it in the pantheon of valid and worthwhile religions is stupid. I'm no universalist but Islam..like the Roman cults, the Egyptians, the Taoists, the Greek Gods is false doctrinally and postionally wrong to most of what we know in the scriptures. We need to stop reasoning their false faith up to the one true faith. Faith in Jesus Christ alone. To all Muslims: Believe in Mohammed and his false teachings and harbor hate in your hearts and you are going to HELL my friends.
Until 9/11, the Mudslimes reaction to it, and garbage like this, I was very respectful of Islam, having mainly read flattering descriptions of it. My view has changed 180 degrees. It seems to be no more than a particularly virulent form of Devil worship where the acolytes go out and, as the greatest sacrament, try to murder everybody who disagrees with them. The organized Mudslimes' reaction to these relatively innocuous cartoons just proves my point.

Not the smartest bunch over there. They do their best to completely eradicate a peaceful, productive religious minority - Jews - in the 30s and 40s and now they've welcomed with open arms millions of fanatics who aim to destroy Western civilization.

Wrong-o Hezzy Hassy Nassyy! We would continue to exercise the free speech rights afforded in Western Society. And now that it looks like a pissing contest is coming down the pipe with you people over inane crap like this, we will do it even more to demonstrate that you can't intimidate us in the long-run. You might blow somebody up again tomorrow. You may pull off one of your many cowardice filled stunts in which you must keep your faces covered unlike a true soldier. But if you think you are going to dictate to the rest of the world what we can express, well I suggest you draw a mental image of Muhammed with his pedophile head up his smelly ass and you go right ahead and join him!
