The U.S. military has been developing a gunship that could literally obliterate enemy ground targets with a laser beam. The laser could have tremendous repercussions on the battlefield, particularly in urban warfare in such countries as Afghanistan and Iraq. "It's the kind of tool that could bring about victory within minutes," an official said.

Steven Wright has a joke about a map of Texas, with a scale "1 inch = 1 inch". Hard to fold 'cause it's so big.

One thing you gotta keep in mind about Flash Gordon's ray gun...

If Flash is on one side of a mountain with his ray gun and the other guy is on the other side with a mortar, Flash is gonna lose.

I want to know how they intend to power this thing. Also, if they're putting it in the air, then I'd think a ship would be an idea platform for this kind of weapon.

Niven had some stories in which space ships defeated laser weapons by projecting mirror finishes, which then reflected the laser beam back to its source.

How does this laser compair with the Howitzer?

How replacing the arty shells with batteries change the mission ?
