WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Washington on Friday condemned caricatures in European newspapers of Islam's Prophet Mohammad, siding with Muslims who are outraged that the publications put press freedom over respect for religion.
"These cartoons are indeed offensive to the belief of Muslims," State Department spokesman Kurtis Cooper said in answer to a question.
"We all fully recognize and respect freedom of the press and expression but it must be coupled with press responsibility. Inciting religious or ethnic hatreds in this manner is not acceptable."

ah but alas, I can never run for president because I was not born here, though I was adopted by a U.S. military family stationed in Germany when I was but a wee thing of 6 weeks old. I am a naturalized citizen, not US born. But my blood is true, blue-blooded American. My dad served this country for almost 30 years before he died shortly after coming home from 'Nam. He went thru WWII, Korea and 'Nam twice and he'd be crapping in his grave if he could see what has become of this great country that he fought so hard for.

Oh, "State Department". That explains it.
While I am normally a big fan of privitization, and fear expanded government control, it would not bother me if some day the United States Government nationalized the State Department and made it a part of the Government, and ran it in such a way that it served the people of the United States.
ok... it's time to clean house at the state department.

When will we all see a retraction stating that our Department of State erred in its interpretation of free speech? What time is Dr, Rice's news conference regarding this?
