2 UW Buildings Evacuated

SEATTLE - Two buildings on the University of Washington campus were evacuated Thursday afternoon after the second floor of Thomson Hall buckled, university spokesman Bob Roseth said.

As many as 200 people were in Thomson Hall at the time of the incident, which was reported to campus police at about 1:53 p.m. No injuries were reported.

The Communications Building next door was evacuated as well for a short time as a precaution, said university spokesman Vince Stricherz.

Roseth said it was not immediately known why the structure moved.

People in Thomson Hall at the center of campus told campus police they felt the building shift and then tiles on the second floor popped loose, Stricherz said. Evacuees had some trouble with the doors, he added.

"Somewhere on second floor, the floor buckled," Roseth said minutes after the building was evacuated.

Thomson Hall, which was built in 1948, houses the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies. Roseth described it as a collegiate gothic building, with four stories above the ground, plus a basement.

No one was allowed back into the building until university structural engineers could investigate and decide whether it was safe, Roseth said.

The floor buckles, the building shifts, tiles pop loose, doors are not working properly and the engineers aren't sure if it is unsafe?

Water? Ground saturation? We only had about 57,520 inches of rain in January.

Seattle will be underwater if this sh-t doesn't stop.

: Reminds me of a joke Bill Cosby used to do when he came to Seattle. He used to say that one day, the sun appeared in Seattle and the inhabitants said "Why God? What have we done?"

There was a Ray Bradbury story like that, about folks who live on Venus, and only once every twenty years or so, the Sun comes out.

A little girl who all her short life wants to see the sun is struck blind the day before...

I forget the ending.
