France Deports First Youth Tied to Riots

PARIS -- The French government deported a Malian involved in autumn rioting on Thursday _ the first expulsion stemming from the weeks of violence that swept across France's troubled suburbs _ and was preparing to send home another six foreigners. The deportation of the man made good on promises issued by Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy during three weeks of car burnings, riots and other violence that began Oct. 27. "I was widely criticized for saying ... that I would apply the law by expelling those (foreigners) who participated in the riots," Sarkozy said on LCI television. "Well, a first one took an airplane to Mali today." Sarkozy said six other foreigners convicted of crimes were about to be deported, explaining the delay as a result of long legal procedures "because we are in a state of law." At the height of the crisis, Sarkozy said he had asked local authorities to immediately deport 120 foreigners arrested during the unrest, a plan that raised concerns among human rights groups. Most of the other cases were dropped because the suspects were minors or faced the prospect of double punishment for their roles in the violence, Sarkozy's spokesman, Franck Louvrier, told The Associated Press. At least 3,200 suspects were arrested and more than 100 police officers were injured in the violence _ the worst civil unrest in France since the student-worker riots of 1968.

I suppose it's a start. Bet this'll tick off the muslim juhadi brothers. Most of whom France can't deport anywhere.

The whole process took less than three months. I recall that some of the rioters were convicted of criminal offenses within days of the riots. How long do you think it would take to try, convict, and deport a foreigner in the US for rioting?

Yes they can. They can be deported to the lawless territory of Somalia.

Man, that is very intolerant of the French. Some might even call it plain racist! These people need compassion, not deportation.

In other news:

Satan's Weather Service reports a distinct cold snap in Hell. Maybe not enough to freeze the place over, but definitely a serious cold front.

Hmm. I think that if mass rioting were to break out by organized gangs of Muslim youths nationwide, then there would be massive blood in the streets, not deportation.

This isn't France. Unless, of course, it was in San Fransisco.

Better not do THAT. The Muslims will get pissed. They might even forget their peaceful ways and become violent.

No kidding. What's next, "NO soup for you!"

Somehow I just don't think that'll put the "fear of allah" into the rest.

I think by the time it even made the docket they'd long be a naturalized citizen and we'd have nowhere to deport them to.

According to the BBC the youth was 22 years old. How is a 22 year old a youth? How old do you have to be to not be a youth? 30?
