Alito Opposes Mo. Execution
AP ^ | Feb 1, 2006 | AP

WASHINGTON (AP) - New Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito split with the court's conservatives Wednesday night, refusing to let Missouri execute a death-row inmate contesting lethal injection.

Alito, handling his first case, sided with inmate Michael Taylor, who had won a stay from an appeals court earlier in the evening. Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas supported lifting the stay, but Alito joined the remaining five members in turning down Missouri's last-minute request to allow a midnight execution.

AP is really pathetic. It was a 9-0 decision and is procedural.

Another strike for the MSM.

I can't imagine Alito voting for political reasons, but you have to admit the buffoons in the Senate who labeled him a bigot and an ultra-rightwinger look like complete liars and fools.... I mean more than they did before.

THIS IS NOT CORRECT! It was a 9-0 decision.

There have been multiple appeals on this case to the Court all day.

Gina Holland, reporter of this AP article, seems to have gathered her information from Jason Blair's crystal ball.

With the case in Florida that the SCOTUS agreed to review, it makes sense that they'd stay all lethal injection cases until that case is heard and adjudicated. Said as much when that decision came down. Don't like it, but perhaps this will short list the executions afterward.

More than likely, he did not have sufficient time to review the case and chose to stay the execution to give him time to do so.
Really. If it's a death penalty case, and you just got on the court yesterday, and they're asking you for an opinion today, and one of your options is wait, you take wait. No rush. Plenty of time fry the scumbag next week.

Procedural vote, not one on the merits of the appeal.

There is not one fact in this story that is correct. The AP is either completely slanted or they have an idiot writing for them. This 100 percent bullcrap article has been picked up by the Washington Post and SF Chronicle among others. How does this crap get printed?????

I dunno.....Don't think we're off to a good start, Justice Alito.

Awww, give the guy a break ... yesterday was a momentous day for him (and us)... witness: Dems internal chaos over their failed lynching of Judge Alito ... President gives a rousing SOTU speech, where IMHO, he was playing with the left side of the asile and enjoying every moment of it (did anyone notice that sly smirk on his face after tossing out one zinger after another at them?) ... Cindy exploding her IED before the convoy even arrived ... DU being down for hours after the SOTU ....

Life is good right now :)

He's been on the SC for about 16 hours now and I'm sure he needs a little bit of time to review the case.
