Sen. John Kerry claimed this morning on NBC TODAY that only 53% of America's children graduate from high school -- a claim that raised eyebrows in the NBC control room, sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT.
Kerry made the comments after host Katie Couric asked the former presidential candidate about the Bush's State of the Union call to train 70,000 additional teachers in math and science.
COURIC: He wanted to train 70,000 additional teachers in math and science.
KERRY: That's terrific. But 53 percent of our children don't graduate from high school. Kids don't have after-school programs... He didn't ask America to sacrifice anything to achieve great goals and the biggest example is making the tax cut permanent for the wealthiest people in America. The average American struggles to find time to take carry of families, working two or three jobs... It's a disgrace. He did not tell the real state of the union.
Kerry's 53% claim conflicts with a recent press release from the U.S. Census Bureau: "High School Graduation Rates Reach All-Time High"
And the Census Bureau's own website states: 85.9 Percent Of Americans Aged 20-24 Are High School Graduates. (U.S. Census Bureau Website, www.census.gov , Accessed 2/1/06)
And Kerry was in Cambodia during Chrismas 1968. President Nixon sent him there on a mission.
Kerry is correct. Actually, I'm surprised it is that high. When 'children" turn 18, they are not children anymore, they are adults. So, when he talks about 47% of children graduating, he's talking about poeple aged 17 or younger. If 47% of those aged 17 or less have graduated from high school, we're actually doing a pretty good job. </obfuscation>
Half are dropping out, and 80% get graduated without being able to read and write forcing massive basic classes in colleges.
Here in California half the state does not even speak english any longer.
Considering the quality of their exchanges, they may have a point.
New headline: Only 47% of Democrats completed HS.
Kerry: "He didn't ask America to sacrifice anything to achieve great goals"
He and Hillary are on the same page:
Hillary: "We're going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good"
KERRY: That's terrific. But 53 percent of our children don't graduate from high school
I said 53% graduate from high school before I said 53% do not graduate.
Will NBC issue a correction? NO!
well, if people did not have to pay such high taxes maybe they would not have to work two, three jobs.
Sometimes I think that Kerry just makes up things to support his position, thinking that no one will know the difference.
Back it up then. There is no way that is true.
Really?
"More BS from Kerry. The number is actually 85%."
And Howard Dean is trying to register the 15% who don't.
WAIT! I got it figured out!
53% of high school students drop out
85.9% of 20-24 year old are high school graduates
Something happens in those two year in between.
If you kill off 85.5% of the high school drop outs in those two years, then the numbers work.
That's because he counts on those like we see over at DU not to bother checking out what he says. He knows those voters are out there so he says this crap and hopes that it is repeated over and over...until... voila! It must be true!
It's clear the DU'ers don't know how to do research, even on facts readily available. It's apparent the REAL facts would get in the way of their agenda.
I think we should cut education and give out more vouchers. End property taxes and have every school go private and parents pay tuition.
70,000 teachers more will do nothing more but create 70,000 more union members paying dues for the democrats.
Kerry's Presidential prospects are definitely looking up ;)
