In the court (and courts) of life and death, a little 11-year-old Massachusetts girl named Haleigh Poutre could be the next Terri Schiavo. For those who have not heard the tragic story, Haleigh was beaten nearly to death last September, allegedly by her adoptive mother and stepfather. The beating left her unconscious and barely clinging to life.
Within a week or so of the beating, her doctors had written her off. They apparently told Haleigh's court-appointed guardian, Harry Spence, that she was "virtually brain dead." Even though he had never visited her, Spence quickly went to court seeking permission to remove her respirator and feeding tube. The court agreed, a decision affirmed recently by the supreme court of Massachusetts.
And so, no doubt with the best of intentions, a little girl who had already suffered so much was stripped by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts of even the chance to fight to stay alive. If she didn't stop breathing when the respirator was removed, which doctors expected, she would slowly dehydrate to death.

Of course adultery would apply in the Schiavo guardianship case, in regards to MS's fitness as a guardian for his wife's best interests. That is how it should be.

The book you're reading sounds very interesting. The more we know about the past, concerning EUthanasia and etc, the better. Imo, Nazism is the same spirit,(the darkside)that has been so active in this country for the past several years. We fight not flesh and blood, but principalities and powers of darkness - paraphasing from the Book of Ephesians in the Bible.

WINO took sick leave then, a fairly new employee at the jail, and a request went out for other sheriff employees to donate their sick leave to WINO to make up for his time guarding Terri and telling the Schindlers when they could see Terri and when he'd send them back across the street.**
I couldn't believe my ears when it was revealed that Schiavo FORBID Terri's family from being in the room with her when she was literally at death's door and died. Then to even be more cruel, he refuses Terri a Catholic funeral, and kept her place of burial a secret for weeks. What a cruel, cruel man.
There's no way in blank, that Terri wanted to die in the company of Schiavo's friends and lawyers, instead of her family who loved her so much. I wonder if he will mention those facts in his stinking book?

I think that the treatment that Randy McCloy, Jr. was getting at the beginning of his hospitalization is something similar to what Hammesfahr suggested. They both had something to do with a hyperbaric chamber. Beyond that, I really don't know.

The men that Dr. Lifton describes are very familiar to me. They use the same arguments and reasoning as the trolls I've dealt with regarding forced euthanasia. They all felt morally justified in their roles. They honestly believed that what they were doing was right, not only for society, but even for the people they were killing. There was one particular Nazi doctor, who if I thought for a minute he could still be alive, I'd swear he was a certain Freeper who opused long ago. The similarities are really unnerving.

In other words, they redacted info to protect themselves, not Haleigh. They actually included a false allegation against Haleigh, to make her look bad, and try to make themselves look good.

Interesting question. I just ran a quick search and found the answer on the first hit. The answer is, yes, the same treatment that Dr. Hammesfahr recommended for Terri. It's called hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT). From a recent CNN story about that miner:

HBOT was devised and first used for treating the "bends" in deep sea divers. Its applications have steadily widened over time. Here it was used to combat carbon monoxide damage -- we call it "poisoning" but its effect is to deprive the body of oxygen. Thet's the same sort of injury Terri suffered. The front area of Terri's brain was deprived of oxygen by an unknown agent. (The rest of her body, including rear areas of her brain, was unaffected by any oxygen deprivation, which is focused and important information about what caused her alleged "collapse.")
Earlier in this thread, I mentioned the death of an in-law relative in my family. That was carbon monoxide. An RN friend advised that while the heart is beating (it was), there is hope to reverse some or all of the carbon monoxide damage. Nevertheless, this person went through the "Harvard Conditions" tests, was adjudged brain dead, and carved up for spare parts -- while her heart was beating.

Gardner, 69, is apparently (according to Seattle Times) suffering from Parkinson's disease and has been showing symptoms since 1992. That's 14 years to decide that his life isn't worth living as it is. What about people who would like to have that same amount of time to enjoy whatever good their life might bring to them before it is time to go? People who might not get a chance if the law becomes suicide is acceptable and therefore mandated?

Of those, a number of esteemed journalists, advocates and attorneys repeatedly called for a halt to the forced dehydration of Schiavo, based both on the grave injustice to her such an action would affect and on the shockwaves that would be felt throughout our country's communities of vulnerable persons. Since Schiavo's court-ordered death, several similar cases have come into public view -- in Florida and from beyond the state's borders. Of these cases, none have more plainly proven the points of Schiavo's supporters than that of Haleigh Poutre.
