WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Police at the U.S. Capitol arrested anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan on Tuesday, shortly before President Bush was to give his annual State of the Union speech, a police spokeswoman said.
The spokeswoman, Capitol Police Sgt. Kimberly Schneider, said she had no immediate details.
Sheehan had been invited to be a guest at the address to a joint session of Congress by U.S. Rep. Lynn Woolsey, a California Democrat.
Sheehan, who became a central figure for the U.S. anti-war movement after her soldier son Casey was killed in the Iraq war, won wide attention with an anti-war vigil outside Bush's Texas ranch.
CNN said Sheehan was arrested after unveiling a banner and was being held on Capitol Hill for about an hour, which would keep her away from the address, which was set to start at 9 p.m. EST.
Sheehan and other activists were arrested in September for protesting outside the White House without a permit, a misdemeanor that carriers a $50 fine.

This from Sgt. Kimberly Schneider of U-S Capitol Police.... Cindy Sheehan was arrested in the gallery of the house floor tonight and charged with demonstrating in the Capitol--a misdemeanor. ...Sgt. Schneider says she was wearing a T-shirt with a slogan on it and was asked to cover it up. Sheehan did not cover it up and she was arrested. ....She is being processed at Capital Police hd and is expected to be released at some point tonight. The misdemeanor charge carries one year in jail. .."

What I'm hoping for is that Sheehan actually runs against Feinstein, splits the wacko vote - while the Republicans run a candidate with a chance of winning.

The woman with the pro=troops shirt was moved but not arrested. I think it would have been better for Scree-ham to simply be removed as well, since now she can squawk about being "unfairly treated".

What's the source for the banner? I can't find more than 1 news article which doesn't mention the T-shirt, and it's old (yesterday). I think the banner thing was an old Reuters report that got it wrong.
She should have just been escorted out, quietly and without fuss, to avoid her yap trigger.

Cindy Sheehan is currently in the news. She and her organization have no connection whatever with American Gold Star Mothers, Inc. We are a 501 C(3) organization and, as such, do not engage in political activities. We do support our troops. After all, they are our children.
The difference being whether or not the second woman behaved disruptively or cooperatively with Capitol police.
You can't seriously believe that an individual crank should have the right to disrupt at will any government gathering meant for the other 299,000,000 Americans without any restrictions whatsoever. American law adheres to the "reasonable man" principle.

Woolsey stifled MY free speech when I personally took her to task for her assault on the Boy Scouts.
