Liberals are making noise in Washington – left-wing activists will gather near the Capitol Tuesday night and bang pots and pans to drown out President Bush’s State of the Union address.
Last week a group called "World Can't Wait - Drive Out the Bush Regime" was denied a permit to gather on the Mall for security reasons. The group won a federal lawsuit and has been given permission to make noise while Bush speaks to a joint session of Congress.
The group's Web site lists Gore Vidal as a member of its Advisory Board and has collected endorsements from left-leaning celebrities including Susan Sarandon, Jane Fonda, Harry Belafonte, Ed Asner and Sean Penn. But it's doubtful that any stars will attend the protest, according to the Washington Times.
The site also urges visitors to "bring the noise and drown out Bush’s lies.”
The activists plan to march to Pennsylvania Avenue on Saturday morning to take their demands to the White House.
"Bush lied, Bush spied, Bush must step down" is the group's slogan.
On Monday opponents of the Iraq war held an "impeachment forum" in a downtown Washington restaurant.
Attending the luncheon were about 100 anti-war activists, many of them silver-haired veterans of the 1960s.
Meanwhile, hundreds of College Republicans will hold a demonstration today in support of the president. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist plans to address a pro-Bush rally called "Finish the Job, Support the Troops."
"It's the new ‘generation gap’: young conservatives versus aging liberals,” the Times reports.
At the anti-war luncheon, Bush-bashing "peace mom” Cindy Sheehan – just returned from a visit with Venezuela’s anti-American President Hugo Chavez – arrived 90 minutes late and signed books for her admirers.
An amusing moment at the luncheon came when a gray-haired woman told longtime war protester Marcus Raskin that she remembered an op-ed article he wrote for the New York Times in 1974 advocating a military intervention to remove President Nixon from office.
A confused Raskin replied: "I don’t think I wrote it. I’m not in favor of military coup d’etats.”
And I'm suppose to be impressed with endorsements from Sarandon, Pean, etal?
With lows in the upper 30s and gusts of wind up to 35 MPH, it should be a lovely celebration!And there's always fire-hoses to liven things up.

You are missing the point. It's form, over substance with these people. They "feel" like they are making a difference, so they "must" be. Doesn't matter that it is empty rhetoric and gestures. Heck, the truth doesn't even matter! All that matters is that they "feel" they are making a difference. Shoot, if they are able to do so at someone else's expense; say through wealth redistribution, or lax national security, that's all the better.
Good strategy, that will definately bring a lot of people to thier side.

Funny these same people were complaining when the UN WMD Sanctions caused a million Iraqi kids to starve to death during the 90's.
I heard these a spokesman for this moronic group on a local DC radio station last night.
All of his talking points were straight from DU and Kos. Even the show's moderator had trouble keeping decorum while the geek ranted and spewed.
Had to keep from busting a gut laughing.
They can assemble and make their noise, but what makes them think their noise will be heard inside the Capitol building????

When did the right to free speech get re-defined as the right to drown out people whose speech you don't like ?
The 1st Amendment was supposed to guarantee open and civil discourse, not this kind of crap.
