Biden Silent on Reid Stepping Down
Red State ^ | Jan 29th, 2006 | Nick Danger

Senator Joseph Biden (D-DE) failed today to address rumors that Nevada Senator Harry Reid will step down next month as Senate Minority Leader.

Reid has been stung by revelations that his political action committee (PAC) accepted more than $60,000 in contributions from Indian tribes linked to convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

Appearing on CNN's Late Edition, Biden avoided discussing either the Reid situation or any upcoming changes in Senate Democratic leadership.

Reid is no stranger to scandal, having been the subject of a 1979 Justice Department probe into allegations that Reid — then Nevada Gaming Commission chairman — had received bribes through mob lawyer Oscar Goodman and Tropicana attorney Jay H. Brown.

The probe officially cleared Reid, but he subsequently received numerous contributions from gambling industry figures, including Brown.

Some Democrats are worried that Reid's continued presence in the Senate leadership undermines Democratic hopes of scoring significant gains this November.

"Reid is going around the country talking about a 'Republican scandal' — about Republicans accepting one- and two-thousand dollar contributions from Jack Abramoff, when his own PAC took in $60,000," ...

Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean, appearing on Fox News Sunday, made no announcements concerning Reid's status, but did comment on the growing controversy.

Moderator Chris Wallace asked Dean, "if we find that there were some Democrats who wrote letters on behalf of some of the Indian tribes that Abramoff represented, then what do you say, sir?"

Without mentioning Reid by name, Dean replied, "That's a big problem. And those Democrats are in trouble. And they should be in trouble."

I think Chris Wallace is the mirror image of Tim Russert. Tim, too, loves the setups and is willing to setup Dems and Pubbies, but moreso the latter.

What??? I thought Howard Dean swore to Katie that not one dime had ever been given to a Democrat by Abramoff. Of course, that was the ever-popular Clintonian twist to the truth, because Abramoff had the Indian tribes fork over the money. He certainly didn't want to use his own money to bribe the Congress when he could have the gullible Indians doing it for him. Katie avered that she was going to "look into that." We are waiting, Katie.....

I noticed that Biden also failed today to address rumors that the Democrats have all decided to move to the moon and establish a new country called "Moonbatopia."

Oh my God! Is there a Republican who could take either of them on??? I don't know who would be worse: Goodman or Carter!

Of course he did. In his world, the more you talk about it the greater chance it has of "becoming the truth" regardless of whether or not it actually is. For them, the truth is merely a prophecy.

Yeah, Bayh would be a bad choice for all the Dems thinking of running. Remember, we hadn't really heard of Reid before he became maj. leader. If I had to guess: Dodd.

Of course it's a legitimate point, an obvious point at that. But not a point being advanced by the opinion makers ... until now I contend.

If he has genuine legal problems, stepping down from ML will not be enough. He'll step down if the problems are only political. It makes no sense for him to just give up his leadership post.

Lovely to hear Dean have to back-pedal again. Last week, he was saying to Al-Qaeda Qatie Quric that the Abramoff scandal was strictly a Republican scandal--that NO Democrats had taken money.

And even lovlier because Reid was pressing the President to "come clean" about the Republican climate of corruption.

Dang. First "Puff" Daschle and now Dingey Harry. Sooner or later, if we keep knocking these fools off, they might end up with someone who has some sense.

That's what I was afraid of. Personally I like Ensign. Any idea how he polls against Goodman or Carter?

In the article in the Las Vegas Sun he says: "I don't know Abramoff, don't want to know Abramoff, it's a Republican scandal" ~LOL~ so that money just fell out of the sky from nowhere, the Indian Tribes just gave it because they like the color of Harry's brown suits!
