Looks like Moon Mullins
This is in fact an interesting move for Mitch. Before Katrina he was actually getting some good reviews by Repubs and Dems alike for some of the stuff he was doing in the Lt gov office. However this is his best bet. Also, it allows him a place to keep his options open. What Nagin will fo will be interesting. More interesting is the fact that Republican contigent in NOLA and how they would vote. I have to admit I would hate to make that choice.
Ahhh- let a local illuminate you!
The Landrieus have black ancestry, way back. That is qualification enough for black voters- that and their extreme liberalism.
True. However Lakeview residents strike me to be the type to absentee vote in big numbers though. I wonder if MItch by this move is thinking long term esp if something happens to Congressman Jefferson, Of course that seat might be gone for all practical purposes after the next census.
"The Landrieus are the white overlords of the black plantation that is NO."
Wonder if Hillary will comment on this observation - you know what I mean...
But how many registered voters are actually living there?
As far as Lakeview goes, don't you think most of those residents will return after they rebuild? If so then they'll probably take the time and effort to find out how to vote absentee or return to the area on voting day. On the news here I see and hear alot about Lakeview residents keeping in touch and staying active in what's going on.
My problem w/ the voter canvassing is that they want to get people registered to vote that are living in other cities and states and were never registered or never voted when they did live in N.O....how corrupt is that! I think the validity of any N.O (or statewide election for that matter) will be in serious doubt.
Looks like Moon Landrieu ... no one can doubt the paternity of this boy ... LOL
"The Landrieus have black ancestry, way back."
They will sell this candidacy on returning to the good ol' days ... and no one can doubt that even the days of Moon Landrieu were better than the post-Katrina days of Clarence Ray Nagin ...The dumbed down, ill-educated public has a memory span of about 30 minutes [the last TV show that mesmerized them]. They were oblivious to what went on in the last Landrieu administration ... or even that there was one. IIRC Moon Landrieu was succeeded by Dutch Morial in about 1978 ... and Landrieu then went to D.C. and HUD. 1978 was a long time ago ....
The only thing the Landrieux are interested in is to solidify their power [and hold on to it]. And, yes, if the governorship is not available this time around ... it will be a stepping stone for Mitch. Is this development an indication that John Breaux is coming closer to a decision to run for Governor and that New Orleans is the "plum" left for picking by Mitch?
It does not matter whether or not it is a chocolate city. It will be the uptown, white, liberals that elect this man ... just as they have elected the blacks that succeeded his father.
God help Louisiana. God help New Orleans. It all validates my decision to leave a state/city that I once loved very dearly.
I agree with you that all residents that are registered to vote should be allowed to vote. What I dont agree with is attempts to register new voters living in other places without sufficient means to verify that they are indeed citizens of the precinct in which they are registering (for ex the attempt in the legislature recently to allow registration by mail for people that have never been registered before..there has to be some means of checking the identification of these new voters to guard against fraud, imo.) There's a difference also, imo, between concerned people finding out how they need to go about voting and doing so and having politicians hunt people down and bring them to the polls or bring the absentee ballots to them and tell them how to vote. Unfortunately that's how it's done all too often. Now theyre just having to create ways to find them all over the country to get the votes.
I agree that Landrieu will probably win. I dont think a real conservative has a chance even if all the Lakeview residents vote....the numbers just arent there for them in the city. The real impact of all the moving around will be seen in statewide elections, like Mary's coming up, where they depend on the dem base in New Orleans to put them over the top. Any ideas on what republican could beat her? I read last week that Jindal is eyeing the next gov race, and as much as we could use his leadership, I sure would like to see him stay fighting for us in Washington.
I wondered last Thanksgiving when the Nagins went to Jamaica on vacation, ostensiblly to unite Jamaica to New Orleans in some nefarious way ... if Nagin was trying to set himself up with a fallback employment opportunity ... just in case things don't work out for him in N.O. Sort of an in-house lobbyist thing to implement this sister city relationship [wouldn't that be Kingston, not Jamaica?] or something.
"wouldn't that be Kingston, not Jamaica?"
Stroke of luck! This means you'll have Gov. Jindal soon enough....
New Orleans looking to strengthen relations with Jamaica Nagin visits as private guest of 'Butch' Stewart BY MARK CUMMINGS Sunday [Jamaica] Observer reporter Sunday, November 20, 2005MONTEGO BAY, St James - Mayor of New Orleans, Ray Nagin, says as his city rebuilds in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, it would be moving to strengthen economic ties with Jamaica. "As we look to rebuild New Orleans, we are also looking to rebuild relationships and the first place that we are looking to rebuild and strengthen relationships is Jamaica," said Nagin.
The New Orleans mayor who is vacationing in the island with his wife Seletha and three children, at a private villa owned by Sandals chairman, Gordon 'Butch' Stewart, was speaking to reporters in Montego Bay at a brief ceremony hosted by Sandals Resorts, shortly after his arrival at the Sangster International Airport on Friday. Stewart is also chairman of the Jamaica Observer.

Mayor Nagin noted that Jamaica and New Orleans already share interests, particularly in the area of culture. "We both have unique characters, unique styles, wonderful food and, most importantly, wonderful people," he said.
"The wonderful people you see when you go to Jamaica or New Orleans ... they make you feel welcome, they treat you like your brother or sister." Plans were well advanced to twin the southern US city with Montego Bay and for the staging of a food and music festival this November in MoBay, when Katrina hit New Orleans in August at category four strength.
Nagin's angry appeals for urgent assistance to his people in the immediate aftermath of the hurricane, catapulted him onto the international stage, amid scenes of devastation and confusion, and death.
According to Nagin, the planned festival was to be used as a springboard to further economic linkages between New Orleans and Jamaica.
Can Jindal beat John Breaux?
Even Democrats know that Nagin screwed their pooch.
It's pretty hard to turn down the opportunities afforded by all those $billions of reconstruction funds. History will tell how much went into politicians' pockets, and which Mayor hit the jackpot.
There is a picture of Nagin sitting on a park bench, posed like Forrest Gump, with a box of chocolates in his lap. The caption on it is Forrest Nagin. I do not know how to post pictures, but I have that one. If anyone wants one they can freep mail me and give me an e-mail address and I'll send it.
