Clinton: Democrats May Filibuster To Block Alito Friday, January 27, 2006 07:21 AM - WBEN Newsroom
Buffalo, NY (WBEN) - U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton says being in the minority in Washington, Democrats have few options when they disagree with an issue or an appointment forwarded by republiacns, and that is the case with the nomination of Samuel Alito the U.S. Supreme Corut.
Hearings contiue to day for Alito, and a vote is likely next Tuesday, but Clinton tells WBEN's Barbara Burns her party is considering a filibuster to try to block the expected Alito confirmation.
Clinton says she is opposed to Alito's nomination, but is not sure she supports a filibuster
This is the same dem caucus that blocked miguel estrada for 7 months while his wife had a miscarraige.
They blocked good judges like owen and pryor. They still are blocking kavanaugh because he was an aid to starr.
Only dem I trust is Ben Nelson.
Feinstein has already gone back on her no filibuster pledge and now will filibuster.
I wouldn't even be shocked if byrd filibustered. He only stated he would vote for confirmation not to end cloture.
Byrd is the same guy that filibustered owen because of reid and schumer then voted for her after the deal.
Right after the gang of 14 reid got all the dems but ben nelson on record to block kavanaugh.
There are at least 35 no votes, kerry only has to pick up 6 more.
I think Kerry will still fail because dems are saving their ammo for stevens replacement.
"..but is not sure she supports a filibuster.."
Not until the latest polls come in...
Looks like a little competition for the moonbats with the kept Ketchup Boy...
Bring it on........it is PAST time to go nuclear in the DC cesspool.
Right now I put the odds at 25%.
She's a real "centrist" too. as we can see. But the press will be telling us of her "turn to the center" any day now, because she voted not to spend money discovering why ice melts or some such rot.
I've been nervous that the vote on Alito has been put off and I'm extremely annoyed that my senator, Sen. Specter, showed no leadership and allowed it to happen. Yes, I believe that most dems want to hold their fire for the next nomination, but now the presidential hopefuls are feeling forced into making this display. The GOP should never have given them the slightest toehold.
Not a pleasant position to be in IMO. But, to quote George C. Scott's Patton: "...yet I do love it so"! He, he.
You are probably right, but it is a stupid move. The Dems better hope neither Buzzy or Stevens don't cash it in before the midterms. The next nominee will most likely be a minority female. There will be hell to pay if the Dems pull that stunt on a Janice Rogers Brown after giving a pass to a couple of white guys.
Actually, filibustering Alito is a lose/lose, while doing the same to the next nominee will be a lose/lose/lose/lose/lose...
IMHO, the Dem presidential wannabes are just posturing to show their base they really wanted to hold up this nomination, but couldn't get the rest of the party to play along.
Oh please. Oh please. Oh please. Oh please. Oh please.
Drag this out a few months closer to the mid-terms. Stoopid Democrats...filibusters are for legislation.
If they had the votes they would have gone nuclear years ago.
Between the rinos from the northeast, media hound rinos like mccain and hagel, and the old time senile fools like john warner and specter forget about the nuclear optionL
Can we finally stop the lie that you have a majority with 50 seats.
Bush is basically in a minority govt. He can't get anything done without 60 votes. Harry Reid basically controls what bush can do.
Think of all the legislation the dems have blocked. Medical malpractice reform, estate tax, anwr. You can go on an on. Without 60 votes in the senate there is no majority.
There never haveing been Senate minorities, apparently, before it happened to the Democrats.
The goal posts keep moving for the Dems. Whenever they lose a fight it is because they are saving up for the next one.
These libs are pathetic.
They string their defeated base along to the edge of oblivion.
Rotten is clearly desperate to regain her base after showing in polls that she is making ZERO ground among Independents and Republicans.
She is going backwards.
I think they'll go for it.....the rats don't want him confirmed before the SOTU Tuesday......they are already worried about Bush's swagger...LOL
Well dam*. All this time I thought it was the smirk. (chuckle)
