Officials in the ruling Fatah Party said Thursday that Hamas captured a majority of seats in Palestinian legislative elections, shortly after the militant group claimed victory. The Fatah officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said they expected Hamas to win about 70 seats, which would give the Islamists a majority in the 132-seat parliament.
They spoke on condition of anonymity because counting in some districts was continuing.

Just woke me up, too. 4 AM isn't anywhere near my usual wake-up time, either.
Perhaps Bush's strategy for the Palestinians was to let them dig their own grave.
They just did.
Gee, what a shock. Left to their own devices the so-called Palestinians chose terrorism. What now, Condi?
Good lord. Our number one terror group. We just might have a harder time now with terrorism. This makes me grit my teeth!

Update 1: Hamas Official: Israel Not on Our Agenda 01.26.2006, 04:40 AM
A senior Hamas official on Thursday said recognizing Israel and negotiations with the Jewish state are "not on our agenda" after the group apparently won a decisive victory in legislative elections.
"Negotiations with Israel is not on our agenda," said Mushir al-Masri, who won election in his home district in the northern Gaza Strip. "Recognizing Israel is not on the agenda either now."
Lioness,
I'm sure the State Dept is now in a quandry trying to figure out to which terrorist organization the aid checks should be made payable.
Great news. Now, at last, we have a wolf in wolf's clothing instead of a wolf in sheep's clothing.
This should stop Israel's suicide march for a time.
I predict a stunning realignment of support in Israel with a major benefit to Netanyahu's Likud Party.
The good thing about this is Israel will be able to fight this terrorist gov't with the gloves off and the U.S. will sit back and watch the Israelis do it without telling Israel to restrain itself.
Should be an interesting year and I am sure you are going to see the UN condemn Israel many times this year for defending themselves against these terrorists.
We are in the position of England circa 1939. Just as London was being bombed and the world appeased Hitler, so have we been attacked and the UN and Europe talk about diplomacy. Once again the Jews are central to the conflict and most of the world is sitting back and allowing them to be in peril. Of course this time the Jews have the ability to defend themselves.
Bush is Churchill, with his warnings of global conflict falling not so much on deaf ears, but on ears that refuse to hear.
We, as Americans, need to come to grips with some facts:
1. The World does not like us. We are the 600 pound gorilla. They like our money, they are afraid of our military, they think we are spoiled rotten and amoral. To a large extent, they are right.
2. Between China, Russia, and Islam we are greatly outnumbered. The only things keeping us safe are our nuclear deterrent and advanced technology. If our nuclear deterrent is neutered by the lack of will to use it (i.e., Democrats in power) and our technology isn't as advanced as we thought, these three powers could easily have their way in the world.
3. South America/Latin America is hostile towards us. The recent wins by leftists in South American elections, who ran on anti-US platforms, Chinese controlled companies sitting at each end of the Panama Canal, Hugo Chavez's popularity, Fidel Castro's longevity, Mexican troops crossing the boarder into the US and firing on our law enforcement, all point towards rapidly worsening relations down south.
4. Nobody likes Israel, but us (and maybe the UK). Much of the world thinks the Palestinians got a raw deal when "their land" was given to Israel. Billions around the world are antisemitic to the core. Memories of the Holocaust have kept these negative feelings about Jews at bay, but memories fade and pleas of "never forget" by a country now prosperous and heavily armed sound like whining to economically challenged Islam.
The world is a tinderbox just waiting for the match. Islofacists want one world under Allah. China thinks that they have a right to world domination. Mexico has unspoken designs (at least officially unspoken) on much of the Southwest US. Russia is looking for a way back to superpower status. Cuba would love to cooperate with Mexico, Russia, China, and anyone else wishing to do us harm. Like Germany and Russia in WWII, an alliance of convenience between Russia and/or China and/or Islamofacists while ultimately untenable, would, in the short term, be devastating.
So where does this election fit into all of this? It is just one more line being drawn in the sand. Will Europe recognize a Palestine run by terrorists intent on destroying Israel? Of course they will. Will China and Russia support them? Of course they will. Will Israel swing to the right because of this? Of course they will.
This could get ugly fast. Possible ramifications are: economic boycotts against the US, civil war in California, Arizona, New Mexico, and maybe Texas, a regional nuclear exchange between Israel and an Islamic state or two, large scale terrorist attacks in the US, not to mention the rise of a restrictive police state in the US to "protect" us. By the way, EITHER party is capable of bringing about that possibility.
I fear that we have ceased being a beacon of truth, freedom, and liberty to the world. They now see us as too powerful, too immoral, and too untrustworthy. I only hope that our leaders have the fortitude to make the hard decisions, for the right reasons, regardless of what the rest of the world thinks.
finally, an election result the dems can be happy about.
That is bad my firends, very bad!
That is bad my friends, very bad!
This result is actually a good thing. No more doubts about where to send the bombers. No more terrorist attacks on one hand and phony condemnations on the other. Any Hamas authorized terror attack on Israel is now a full declaration of war.
This victory by Hamas will make IRan all the more Bellicose and will breath new life into the insurgency in Iraq. It also is backing Isreal into a huge corner, and they are without a doubt a wounded animal that WILL strike back.
Todayis a very dark day, and I fear it is the harbinger of a very dark time.

BTTT...
Today is no darker a day than yesterday, in reality. It's just the day these savages took a bucket of ice water to our illusions.
We should thank them. Transparency is good thing.
