Pelosi Statement on President’s Speech on the War on Terror

Washington, D.C. – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today in response to President Bush’s speech on the war on terror at Kansas State University:

“President Bush missed a critical opportunity today to explain why, more than four years after the 9/11 attacks, the American people are not as safe as they should be.

“The 9/11 Commission’s final report card indicted the continued failure by the Bush Administration and the Republican Congress to meet the security needs of our nation and make Americans safer.

“Security gaps at our ports, our nuclear power plants and chemical production facilities, in our first responder communications, and airline cargo have long been identified. President Bush and Republican Congressional leaders say that closing these gaps are a priority, but they do not take even the most basic steps necessary to correct obvious problems in emergency preparedness.

“The President talked at great length today about his decision-making process on homeland security. But clearly, as evidenced by the 9/11 Commission’s failing grades, it is not working. The American people deserve and expect that all elected officials will protect and keep America secure while respecting our Constitution and system of checks and balances.

“Democrats have better ideas – continue to support addressing completely all of the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission, and continue to fight for bipartisan solutions that will keep Americans safer.”

Keep up the whining strategy, Nancy. It worked so well in '02 and '04...

Pelosi really screwed up with her rebuttal. She left out "culture of corruption."

Then let me explain, Nancy. It's the Dems' fault. They've been sabbotaging everything Bush and the federal government does at every step of the way. The war would probably have been over by now if the Dems had supported the war effort the way that the GOP supported the war effort during WWII.

You would think that if we weren't safe, there would have been alot more post 9/11 attacks on U.S soil. Instead of focusing on fighting the War on Terror, the democrats are busy trying to discredit the administration to win votes.

Looks like Pelosi missed a critical opportunity to explain why she is qualified to hold a leadership position in the House.

Close the borders beee--ach!

We have had no major terror strikes since 9/11 which is amazing since people can just walk in to the US. Heck, we can't even keep diseased Mexican cows out of the US.

The illegals are making a mess of parts of the US. I'm more concerned about MS-13 than I am about Bin Laden and his gang.

Really? What I heard him say is that Democrats are obstructing the war effort by demanding Civil Rights for Al Queda.

And I just know and feel ever so confident that the Dim, Dimmer and Dimmest are ever so eager, desirous and capable of defending America, freedom and Western civilization.

Yeah right. Do I need a sarcasm alert here?

Somebody remind me of all the legislative proposals that the dems have put forward in the last 4 years.

This "port" security thing is a straw-man. They know we can't inspect all the containers that come in...nothing would get done. Ships would be sitting in port, waiting as the containers get backed up. These imbeciles would never tolerate every passenger being screened, let along every container. Intelligence is required to do the best we can at figuring out which containers should be flagged, maybe even intercepting (gasp!) phone calls between al Qaeda loading the container in Pakistan and al Qaeda here in NYC waiting to clear said container.

Just a hunch, but IF we're "not as safe as we could be", I think that Ms. Pelosi need look no further than at the party of which she is a member.

You know....the party that has constantly and consistently done everything humanly possible to undermine the mission and morale of our troops through their words and deeds. It has become increasingly difficult to determine whether the democrat mandra "Bush lied, people died" originates with al quaeda, al jazzera or Howard Dean's office. Maybe a combination of all of the above?

I could go on, but I know that my fellow Freepers know where I'm coming from.

Ms Pelosi.....put a sock in it, okay? You are nothing but a parasite and deserve to be treated as such.

Bahbah, you ignorant wing-nut. Don't you know that all the great Dem legislative proposals never see the light of day because of the plantation mentality of the evil Repukes up on Capital Hill?
