Genetic code
They looked for differences that would help separate the human sequence from the chimp sequence.
Fujiyama's team found just 1.44% of the DNA was different at the level of single letters of genetic code.
These letters, A, C, T and G, stand for the nucleotides that make up the DNA of all living creatures. The nucleotides match up to make amino acids, which in turn string together into genes that control the proteins made by cells.
There are vast stretches of DNA that do not make up genes and scientists are struggling to understand their importance.
Fujiyama's team found differences that may be more important than the single-letter changes.
DNA similarities in chimps and humans can be misleading
"There is also an impressive number (68,000) of small to large stretches of DNA that have been either gained or lost (these are called 'insertions or deletions', 'indels' for short) in one species or the other," the researchers wrote.
"These differences are sufficient to generate changes in most of the proteins: indeed, 83% of the 231 coding sequences, including functionally important genes, show differences at the amino-acid sequence level."

The myth that we are 98% genetically identical to apes has continued to be debunked but receives only a fraction of the press that it deserves. It is clear that for some reason the mainstream media are uncomfortable with pointing out the truth on this matter and would rather the myth continue to resonate with the public.
"It is clear that for some reason the mainstream media are uncomfortable with pointing out the truth on this matter and would rather the myth continue to resonate with the public."
Why do you think that is?
Some of us, it must be admitted, are more than 98% genetically identical to apes, judging by behavior. Others are a bit further removed from them. The evolution is still ongoing.
Why isn't it sufficient to simply note that most MSM folks are stupid and uneducted ~ but otherwise, they look so good.
The title is misleading. The actual comparison was between two apes. Humans and Chimps.
"In short, the human and mouse genomes are remarkably similar not only in the structure of their chromosomes but also at the level of DNA sequence. Scientists have reported similarities between the two species for decades but never with the detail that is possible by lining up two genome sequences"

I still believe humans descended from mice.
That was my first thought but I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. I have no doubt they have intent to deceive and choose not to report things and spin things to suit their group inclinations.
Do you know why you must take antibiotics for the full regimen even after you feel well ?
It is because of Darwin and survival of the fittest. A few bacteria may be fitter and survive a short regimen of antibiotics and you need to kill them all or the fit ones will mutate, develope resistance and kill you.
This is a fact.
I have wondered about the small differences between man and some animals, and have wondered if the consumption of the meat of a prevalent animal for centuries would not cause the differences we see in mankind in different parts of the world.
UUNNGH?
"I still believe humans descended from mice.
"
Mice are not in the direct line of descent. At one point, however, far back in mammalian evolution, a precursor species did exist that is in the line of descent of both mice and humans. The split, however happened long ago.
What does an animated GIF of John Kerry have to do with this discussion? [grin]
It may be a small change, but like in real estate, location is important.
But consider the consumption of carrots, radishes, onions, cucumbers, tomatoes and cabbages as well. Could you honestly say that there are no humans whom one could - deservedly - call vegetables? And there are, or might be, different varieties of them. So, one could be as dumb as a cabbage, while in another place the proper simile will be to a radish.
To take that a little further, as a mammal, you are definitely related to a mouse. You have all the same exact organs, nor more or no fewer. Your skeleton is virtually identical to that of a mouse, except for scale and shape.
You have either a penis and testicles, or a uterus and ovaries, just like the mousie. If you are female and give birth to a human infant, it will have had a placenta attached to it and will eat milk produced by your mammary glands for some time.
Like the mouse, you have hair covering almost your entire body, albeit fine downy hairs, compared with the mouse. You have two eyes, two ears, and two nostrils supplying air to two lungs.
There's actually very little difference, morphologically speaking, between you and the mousie.
Come on, MM...
There is absolutely not one sliver of evidence in your theory.
Assuming the inexplicable is the problem with the "science" that has been taught.
"Some of us, it must be admitted, are more than 98% genetically identical to apes, judging by behavior. Others are a bit further removed from them. The evolution is still ongoing."
Perhaps, the democrat politicians and the television evangelists.
"Come on, MM...

Sure there is. The lines of mammalian descent are pretty well populated with fossil evidence. That you are not aware of that means that you have not looked into it.
You and the mousie are both mammals. You are related.
The difference between a Veg and meat is harmones, and hormones can change you, the question is in time will the changes be permanent
