This is a "legitimate" test in-so-far as it was developed by researchers at the University of Georgia. It was designed to test the theory that homophobia is a manifestation of repressed homosexual desire. The researchers reported difficulty finding heterosexual men who were "high-grade non-homophobic."
TOPICS: Culture/Society; Your Opinion/Questions
KEYWORDS: bs; conartists; doyouwantaride; gaycowboyseatpudding; havesomecandy; homophobia; homosexualagenda; howtocorruptsomeone; pillowbiters; quiz; repressed

Push poll, anyone?
"Are you repelled by gays like an inbred, Southern, redneck Republican?"
To: Callahan
They proceeded the quiz by mentioning that homosexuality used to be considered a psychological disorder but has since been removed from that category by the APA. They neglected to ask the question "do
you think homosexuality is a psychological disorder?"
As long as it's consensual (and private) I'm neutral on the morality of it. (It's not my call.) But I would have to answer "Strongly Agree" that it's a mental/emotional disorder. It's a deep seated neurosis of the highest magnitude.

Probably a libertarian? (Small "l" or big "L")? We're in the minority but proud. ;^) We're in the minority outside of FR as well. Come to think of it, we're about 1-3% of the population. Our sanity, and parenting skills, are repeatedly questioned. If "libertarianism" is ever added to the DSM, I'll be proud to be crazy!

My non-homophobic score of 38 included my answer that if a homosexual came on to me I would hit them. I would make my non interest plain first. But anything other than complete retreat would result in a knuckle sandwich.

I hear ya. When I see someone over-the-top swishy I often wonder if they aren't putting it on heavy just to annoy people. I think- NO WAY can that be how they normally act.
And people who purposely annoy suck. (no pun)

Hoomophobes are homosexuals who call themselves gay because they can't stand or accept the word homosexual.

Wonder if there's a test for homophobic phobics?
To: newzjunkey
Maybe I should be more specific.
I work with, am related to, are friends with, have neighbors and probably teach, gay people. Men and women. They send each other flowers, or talk about going on trips or having parties or whatever. I have NO problem with that. Fine. They are living openly in homosexual relationships. There are two sets of gay couples in our extended family. I love all four of them. We have fun during family outings, and they are around my children. No pda, no problem.
Now, if those people asked me what I thought of homosexual relationships I would tell them straight out that as a Christian, I believe practicing homosexuality is sinful according to the Bible. In fact, to be honest, they probably know that with out asking. That doesn't mean I love them less, or are going to constantly preach at them about it. It's an understanding. They know what I believe, I respect their choices. End of subject.
What I am talking about specifically is the activism. The accusations that if you are not interested in watching a movie or tv show which prominently features gay people, you are somehow homophobic. That if you are against gay marriage, you are homophobic. If you don't want your children to grow up with the message that gay relationships are exactly the same as straight ones, you are homophobic.
I just get sick of the whole in your face, "I define myself only by my sexual behavior first and foremost" approach that the activist/Hollywood types take. It's as if my approval of what they are doing is more important to them than their own satisfaction/acceptance of themselves. That irritates me. It begins to make me feel threatened and pushed. It's aggressive.
The other day, I overheard a couple (both women) in a restaurant laughing about the night before having been at a bar taunting a straight woman by pinching her on the chest and telling her that she really liked it when she got irritated at them. They thought it was hysterical and branded her as "homophobic."
Frankly, I was really angry. She had every right, as much right as she would have with a man, to tell them to get away from her. It was predatory. It was activist and it was flat out wrong.
So that is what I mean about not really wanting to know anything about people's sex lives. And frankly, it goes for straight people as well.
Sorry for the length. But conservatives constantly get branded as seeing everything as black and white, that they don't understand nuance. In this case, I believe the conservative position is appropriately, and carefully nuanced. The democrats position is like a hammer to one's temple. You're either a homophobe, or you're not.
To: Smartaleck
LOL. Yes. Straight white male liberals, if I recall correctly. ; ).

Oops. Sorry, misread your post. doh!

The quiz asked about "homosexuals," not "child molesters." I think you miss the point. The point is that the premise underlying the poltically correct 'test' is severely flawed in that it does not seperate an individual from the activity they CHOOSE to do.
I myself respect a human being yet oppose, consider immoral, and am disgusted by homosexual activity -this 'test' presents both person and activity as one as if people are but animals driven to act upon whatever dispositions no matter how wrong that they hold? This 'test' does not measure anything and is simply a propoganda tool -the test is simply more from the homosexual agenda activists...
According to this test no one can legitimately oppose homosexual activity without being a homophobe -objectively a very incorrect construct. IF one takes this construct as legitimate THEN even the much hated homophobia this test attempts to identify is okay becuse human beings are homophobes not to be hated -as such, the test itself is unnecessary UNLESS the test is simply an extension of politically correct agenda being promulgated.
The "question" this "test" actually addresses is not one of whether or not another hates or treats badly a fellow human being for whatever reason the supposition being advanced is "why do you hate people by not supporting the politically correct sexual activity?....

homosexual agenda ping!
I am assisting in pinging the list temporarily.
I scored a 56 on this 'test' and am classified a homophobe. I am a proud heteronormative homophobe. My thoughts on this 'test' are on post# 157:

I scored a 74 which I guess makes me some sort of "rabid" homophobe.
The "test" was disgusting in its pro-homosexual agenda leaning. I found the question about "keying a homosexual's car" to be reprehensible and beneath contempt.
