Earth Doomed (according to renowned British scientist)
TerraDaily ^ | January 16, 2006

Renowned scientist James Lovelock says he believes the world has passed the point of no return for climate change, and civilization is unlikely to survive.

Thirty years ago Lovelock conceived the idea that Earth possesses a planetary-scale control system he named Gaia, which keeps our environment fit for life, The Independent reported Monday. But now he believes mankind's abuse of the environment has made climate change insoluble and life on Earth will never be the same again.

In an extraordinarily pessimistic new assessment published in Monday's Independent, Lovelock suggests efforts to counter global warming cannot succeed, and that, in effect, it is already too late.

Lovelock now believes Earth and human society face nearly complete disaster, and sooner than nearly anybody realizes.

He writes, "Before this century is over, billions of us wil! l die, and the few breeding pairs of people that survive will be in the Arctic, where the climate remains tolerable."

In the immortal lyrics of Jimmy Soul:

====
If you wanna be happy
For the rest of your life,
Never make a pretty woman your wife,
So from my personal point of view,
Get an ugly girl to marry you.

A pretty woman makes her husband look small
And very often causes his downfall.
As soon as he marries her
Then she starts to do
The things that will break his heart.
But if you make an ugly woman your wife,
You'll be happy for the rest of your life,
An ugly woman cooks her meals on time,
She'll always give you peace of mind.

(chorus)

Don't let your friends say
You have no taste,
Go ahead and marry anyway,
Though her face is ugly,
Her eyes don't match,
Take it from me she's a better catch.

(chorus)

Say man.
Hey baby.
Saw your wife the other day.
Yeah?
Yeah, she's ugly.
Yeah, she's ugly but she sure can cook.
Yeah?. Okay.

The number of deaths sounds about right regardless of whether or not things burn up or freeze over.

It's still a ploy to advance social control, though.

"What we've got to do in energy conservation is try to ride the global warming issue. Even if the theory of global warming is wrong, to have approached global warming as if it is real means energy conservation, so we will be doing the right thing anyway in terms of economic policy and environmental policy -- Timothy Wirth, former U.S. Senator (D-Colorado)

I guess it doesn't require much in the way of brains to be considered a "scientist" in Britain

That's fighting talk from the Americans: the people who invented the HIV virus out of whole cloth and poisoned 50,000 of their own people with AZT.

But - Lovelock doesn't impress, does he? I do hope hehas more on his CV than "I was the first person to start babbling about Gaia"

Earth is not doomed. Mankind may be doomed but the Earth will keep on hanging in it's orbit around the sun.

"If not this century, then the next. Sometime in the next 100 trillion years, the earth will be destroyed!" he added.

Glad to hear it. Now we can stop wasting time and money on useless "environmental solutions."

Crude oil prices being driven up by Iran and Hurricanes could easily cause gas to go well over $5 a gallon.

Then people will stop buying gasoline and the planet will cool back down. Game, set, match.

"If I'm one of the remaining males, I just hope that the remaining females aren't ugly."

Imagine that the survival of the species depended upon procreating with Janet Reno, Helen Thomas, Eleanor Clift, Hilary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, and Barbara Boxer.

I'd rather kill myself right away. :^)

Well, if we can just get over to Proxima Centauri, a nice little slow-burning red dwarf, we should be good to go for 100 trillion years.

"Before this century is over, billions of us will die"

Well let's see.... there are roughly 6+ billion humans alive right now, 1/2 or more above the age of 30, so unless a large proportion of humans start living 130+ years anyone can say with confidence that billions of us will die in the 21st century..... that has nothing to do with whether Algore or the "Gaia" loonies have any idea what they're talking about!!
