It's Hillary presidency, Bush told
Insight ^ | 17 January 2006

President Bush's advisers are resigned to the Democratic capture of the White House in 2008, according to senior Republican sources close to the White House.

GOP sources said White House strategists have attempted to persuade Mr. Bush that Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, New York Democrat and her party’s current front-runner to be the next presidential nominee, cannot be defeated in 2008. Bush strategists said the president should instead focus on seeking to retain the Republican majority in both houses of Congress in 2006 and 2008.

"There is nobody in the White House that will openly say we lost the presidency in 2008," a senior GOP source said. "But while the Democrats are completely focused on 2008, the White House has been completely aloof."

The strategists have argued that given the forecasts of a downturn in the economy, crises with China and Iran, Mrs. Clinton would be besieged with major problems that would ensure a one-term presidency, the sources said.

The strategists have pointed out that Mr. Bush, given the failing health of Vice President Dick Cheney, does not have a natural successor. Recently, Mr. Cheney, who suffers from heart problems, was rushed to the hospital because he had difficulties in breathing.

The sources said the strategists have assessed that Mrs. Clinton would easily win the Democratic leadership and the subsequent race for president. They said Mr. Bush has pledged to campaign vigorously for any GOP presidential nominee.

Administration sources said Mr. Bush has discussed the prospect of a Clinton presidency. But they asserted that the president has focused on the 2006 elections for Congress and the need to maintain the GOP majority.

"If we lost our majority in Congress, then the president immediately becomes a lame duck," an administration source said. "So, the talk of 2008 is not only premature, it's harmful."

Nothing--NOTHING--would energize the Republican base more, in terms of time and money, than a Shrillery nomination. We're not going to put the wicked witch of the west into the White House.

I think Mitt Romney could handle her better than any other potential Republican nominee on the horizon. He won't have any backage associated with the current Congress. He'd smack her silly. She'll be trying to run a campaign focused on sleaze and ethical breaches. But she has her own problems with ethics and sleaze. Romney is squeaky clean. He'd steal her lighting and impale her candidacy squarely on it.

That's ok. I will be the one 'freeping' McMafia should he be anointed as the next nominee.

I would hope that many here would be right there beside me, nonetheless, I'd go it alone if need be.

McCain is a no good, lying, degenerate s.o.b.

Which makes me throwup more than a little thinking about a McCain-Hitlery General Election.

I pray that a hard nosed Conservative comes onto the scene, and soon.

Hillary 2008 : The transition begins from Broken-Glass Republicans to "Left Nut Republicans". Yes, I'd give up my left nut to vote against her. Of course, in order to be fair, for the ladies, we will allow them to name their own suitable body part to sacrifice for the cause.

I have to explain to you the difference between McCain and any other Communist Rat? There is nothing I can, sadly, do for anyone in that position, at this point.

"McCain staffer? I'll vote for a 3rd party candidate before I vote for McKeating."

Isn't that the 'strategy' newbie? DIVIDE AND CONQUER?

There are many great teams. It would be great to see them play. The 2004 USC was the peak for this cycle for USC.

Right after we institute a playoff system, we will have to make a time machine, so they can all play.

Over 4 years that USC team was awesome (for a 4 year stretch). People missed 2002 due to two early losses - no one paid attention - but by the end of the year they were awesome. They had the kind of defense where even good teams had to worry constantly that they would just take the ball away from them. #1 defense against toughest schedule in NCAA. Then 2003 team, 2004 team, then 2005.

All championship teams are great teams, by definition. Multi Championship teams are special.

Yes, that's exactly what her voice sounds like...rails on a blackboard. YUCK !

And her facial contortions aren't pretty to watch either.

There's really a strong possibility that she wont even run on the Dem primary of '08. She's a lousy campaigner and other Dems presidential hopefuls are NOT going to just fade away/give in to her and allow her to be crowned QUEEN OF THE UNIVERSE.

He did what he had to do to get elected in Massachusetts. Once in power, he became quite conservative.

In any event, he's less of a RINO than any other competitive Republican. And he's a hard nosed businessman who would do what it takes to keep the economy robust and healthy.

I didn't think so a few months ago, But I am rapidly becoming convinced that Romney is the horse that can win. His strengths perfect cancel anything Hillery is likely to run on. Yale Law? Big deal. Romney was Harvard Law cum laude and went on to be a phenomenally successful venture capitalist.

Executive experience? As a sitting governor he has it in spades over Hillary's senate stint.

Ethics? Romney was Hercules cleaning up the Salt Lake Olympics Augean stables. What's Hillary's record? FBI Filegate, the Rose Law Firm records fiasco, Whitewater, and a "miraculous" touch in the futures market.

Family values? Romney and his wife are the real deal, a quiver full of great, normal, well-balanced kids. Hillary has a token child that grew up in the most dysfunctional family to inhabit the White House in decades.

Romney would wipe the proverbial floor with Hillary.

I know, it's hard to compare other than head-to-head.

I agree with you, the NCAA pretends we are all a bunch of morons when they insist that not going to a playoff isn't simply about the Bowl payoffs. And I'm not just talking about the institutions.

As for dynasties, I can't think of a program (of which I firmly believe '95 Nebraska is unmatchable as a team over a single season's performance, including them having some 3 or 4 dozen players play in the NFL) other than the recent USC teams that come close.

Nebraska could have won it in 1993 (errant field goal as time expired against FSU) and 1996 (opened up against a very good ASU squad on the road, starting a new QB and never got started) and did win it in 1994 (beat Miami on their home field), 1995 (beat a very good Florida/Spurier team) and 1997 (another team I'd put up against the all-time best).

They got 3 in 4 years and could have had 5 in a row.
