It's Hillary presidency, Bush told
Insight ^ | 17 January 2006

President Bush's advisers are resigned to the Democratic capture of the White House in 2008, according to senior Republican sources close to the White House.

GOP sources said White House strategists have attempted to persuade Mr. Bush that Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, New York Democrat and her party’s current front-runner to be the next presidential nominee, cannot be defeated in 2008. Bush strategists said the president should instead focus on seeking to retain the Republican majority in both houses of Congress in 2006 and 2008.

"There is nobody in the White House that will openly say we lost the presidency in 2008," a senior GOP source said. "But while the Democrats are completely focused on 2008, the White House has been completely aloof."

The strategists have argued that given the forecasts of a downturn in the economy, crises with China and Iran, Mrs. Clinton would be besieged with major problems that would ensure a one-term presidency, the sources said.

The strategists have pointed out that Mr. Bush, given the failing health of Vice President Dick Cheney, does not have a natural successor. Recently, Mr. Cheney, who suffers from heart problems, was rushed to the hospital because he had difficulties in breathing.

The sources said the strategists have assessed that Mrs. Clinton would easily win the Democratic leadership and the subsequent race for president. They said Mr. Bush has pledged to campaign vigorously for any GOP presidential nominee.

Administration sources said Mr. Bush has discussed the prospect of a Clinton presidency. But they asserted that the president has focused on the 2006 elections for Congress and the need to maintain the GOP majority.

"If we lost our majority in Congress, then the president immediately becomes a lame duck," an administration source said. "So, the talk of 2008 is not only premature, it's harmful."

I feel ill!

It could be illness for you or I, but fatal for our country. Hillary is NOT world leader material, not by a long shot.

Islam is a huge world problem right now, and women are considered less than dirt by Muslims. Respect of and for America is what the next President needs to earn, emote and demand. Building back our industries, jobs and sovereignty are critical to our future survival. Somehow Hillary's experience level doesn't even rate her an interview for the job of President.

Allen doesn't impress me in the least. Brownback would be far more acceptable to me.

Just because the majority don't actually vote for her doesn't mean she won't get the most votes. She is a democrat.

Remember, the democrat dead still vote.

Bush is no different than any other politician in this regard. It is all about him, and he gives little thought to the care of his movement after he is gone. Part of the problem is that Bush has probably never considered himself to be part of a movement.

The first is a damn lie. If it were all about him he wouldn't have helped Republcans gain consecutive majorities in 2002 and 2004 and intent on helping them with fundraising and campaigns in 2006. He's built this majority, it wasn't accidental. He even fired the guy that had the job Melhman and Gillespie previously held because he produced poor results in 2000 with Reps losing seats. he's given great consideration to retaining and growing the Republican party. That isn't the mark of someone that cares solely about himself, especially when he could have only concentrated on his own election and possibibly picked up a couple other of states rather then flying around helping vulnerable Reps in "red" states.

Now, by movement, if you mean conservative movement, no he's never considered himself a part of it...at least in terms of rhetoric. He's practiced some conservative philosophies, but in that sense he wasn't like Reagan who devoted himself to growing the conservative movement but didn't grow the Party. I suppose the ideal would be someone that grows both, but the argument could be made the conservative movement needed Reagan's help more at the time. The conservative movement is big enough now to grow itself, G.W.'s turned his eye to growing the Republican Party instead. Whatever one's opinion of the decision, he can't be held responsible for not being a rhetorical movement conservative when everyone knew that when he was first nominated. He lived up to what he said he would do, or has tried, and in some areas exceeded expectations (national security).

Of course, IMO, the point of this piece is to get the GOP to rally around a RINO like McCain. It's amazing how early in the process they set the stage.

No but I notice that everyone seems to be talking about it these days with all the female leaders being elected. A lot of people are acting like it is a fait accompli.

If it's Hillary vs Rudy, I vote Rudy solely because the WOT is the one issue he has going for him that matters above all and he's solid on it. That, and he doesn't seem afraid of the MSM.

I won't vote for Rudy in the primary.

I won't vote for McCain period.

I'd hold my nose to vote for Allen. He has no spine, he bows to the pressure of the MSM/McCain/Cindy Sheehan. he instills no confidence from me that he'll be able to carry G.W.B's load in the WOT and seems to have his finger in the wind for weeks before he'll speak. Even on an issue that would seem to favor the GOP to any casual observer, judges, he's noticeably absent.

There is no candidate I'm even half way in favor of in the primaries so far at this time. I'm not an all or nothing gal, but the field so far is extremely weak.

considering that Bush has three full years left I doubt any of his close staff is worried about who will take over. And the whole lame duck status only applies to legislative efforts. Bush will still be making the decisions on the WOT straight through 2009 and his policies will be felt through 2010 even if a Dem takes over - which is highly doubtful.

The looney left has helped us in one tremendous way - there is no longer a single conservative or republican who would stand to let a Dem have the White House. Combined with the demographic trends toward the right, this author, along with the Liberal Media is writing what they think could happen...what they want to happen. Let them win an election before they start telling us that they have it in the bag!
