Why God Chose the Jews

Why God chose the Jews

By Andrew Klavan

THERE IS ONE good thing about anti-Semitism: It lets you know who the bad guys are. Right, left, black, white, freak or straight, the minute someone starts rattling on about the evil Jews, you know your train just pulled into Slimeball Station.

All bigotry is wrong, of course, but there's something about this particular form of prejudice that's weirdly reliable as a sign of deeper wickedness. Perhaps it's because the Jews contributed so much to humanity's moral code that to hate them as a race is to despise the restraints of morality itself

Whatever the reason, true, virulent anti-Semitism is such a good indicator of the presence of evil that I'm tempted to believe that when God made the Jews his chosen people, this is what he chose them for: to be a sort of Villainy Early Detection System for everyone else.

Unfortunately, in his infinite love for his creation, I suspect the Big Guy may have overestimated our intelligence. Maybe he thought that after Hitler we'd just, you know, like, get it. Instead, we still see apparently intelligent people appeasing, making excuses for and even embracing the sorts of stinkers who ought to set off the Big Alarm.

That's why I think the system could use more bells and whistles — a loud honking noise perhaps, or closed captioning for the morally impaired. Thus, when Iranian President Ahmadinejad says the Holocaust is a "myth" or Israel "must be wiped off the map," you would hear a loud honk and words would appear in the air below his face: "Hello. I am an evil madman. Please stop negotiating with me now and proceed to cripple my nuclear capability by any means necessary."

"Chosen for what?"

To proclaim God to the world.

to believe that when God made the Jews his chosen people

This is Old Testament. New Testament says "He who rejects Me also rejects the one who sent me." and this little gem: "Whosoever rejects me in front of men, so shall I reject Him on the day of Judgement in the Father's presence".

God's chosen people. Chosen for what?

Study the Bible. There you'll find the answer.

This is a ch__ch. What's missing?

You're welcome. I found it quite by accident at their website: it's the #1 most e-mailed article.

If you underestimate how much pressure the leadership is willing to put on pastors, you need to review what just happened at First Presbyterian, Hollywood (CA).

I'd like to know...What happened?

Thanks for the article. As you can see, it falls on deaf ears all too often.

I tried to google it and only came up with something almost a year ago - some minsters were told to leave immediately and not tell anyone why?

They can't be suffering since, like the remaining 99.99999% of humanity they're not God's "chosen people."

Envy is an ugly business. Decent Christians eschew it.

This article brings up something I hadn't considered: that anti-Semitism indicates an underlying evil beyond simple prejudice against Jews.

When I consider some of the anti-Semitic people I have run across, both on the internet and occasionally in real life, this gentleman's theory rings true.

Anti-Semites are more willing to consider violence as a solution to their "problem." They are also people who are likely to delve into other forms of bigotry.

And, they support the most loathesome people in public life.

Good article.

Anti-semitism has morphed into various forms.

Some pure evil, much simple jealousy, and some pure ignorance.

Almost always it's the so called elites who think they're so much superior to others who promote this thinking in our colleges and universities.

He is above all denominations...He is above this planet so infinitely far...but He is as close as a prayer.

Don't believe me...ask Him (in prayer).

So here's a plan. The next time you express an opinion on what's wrong with the world, take a look around to see who's nodding in agreement. If it's some clown who thinks the Jewish state should be pushed into the sea, or that the Jews killed Christ or are conspiring to subvert the world economy or the government or the media, I beg you to consider that you might be wrong. There is no shame in changing your opinion. Falling into step with wicked fools — that's shameful, and it's dangerous too. God gave you an early detection system. Use it.

Come to think of it, I don't remember agreeing with anti-Semites or anti-Semites agreeing with me on different subjects for that matter. Funny thing is some of them are very religious and even Catholics, whose antisemitism is so transparent it's incongruent with their faith. The truth of the matter is that I never got along with those people. I think the author has a really good point here.

I have never really understood antiemitism (thank G-d). Usually, it is based on some form of envy. Usually, the anti-semitic rants revolve around wealth (e.g. "THEY control the banks" or "THEY exploit people to gain wealth"). It is hardly a wonder that some of the most anti-semitic people who I have ever met on campus and elsewhere tend to also hold left-wing economic views.

Sidebar article by Dennis Prager that explains a bit about the existence of
anti-semitism (warning ADULT content in linked article):
http://www.catholiceducation.org/articles/homosexuality/ho0003.html

It does partly explain the hatred of Jews: the moral code that channeled
men's libido into faithful heterosexual relationships. That's enough to get
some folks to hate the Jews.
(and Prager's commentary is still good...even if his marriage is
now ending)

If the truth doesn't come out in honest prayer...in sifting the soul.

But then I am confident (I have experience)...the truth (the Truth) will emerge.
