You can read the full Prospect article on Kennedy's site. Its subject is a lawsuit by a female Princeton student who wanted to be admitted to an all-male eating club at the university. As the title suggests, it argues more broadly that elitism isn't a bad thing. The article is written in an arch style that doesn't do much for me, and I don't think it's very good. But there isn't anything especially offensive or even controversial in it.
Dinesh D'Souza was the editor of Prospect at the time, and he confirms that the article, by H. W. Crocker III, now an editor for Regnery Books, was a satire:
The essay may not have been funny, D'Souza acknowledges, but Kennedy read from it as if it had been serious instead of an attempt at humor. "I think left-wing groups have been feeding Senator Kennedy snippets and he has been mindlessly reciting them," D'Souza said. "It was a satire."
The bottom line is that if this is the most "offensive" article CAP was responsible for in its decade-plus of existence, the Democrats' whole guilt-by-association effort was much ado about nothing. If being associated, however remotely, with attempts at humor that don't turn out to be very funny is enough to place a public figure beyond the pale, the Democrats had better stay away from Al Franken.
that wasnt Kennedy talking about his brother(s) being killed. that was a "supporter".
"Senator Kennedy - you're an eediot! You stupid bloated sack of protoplasm!"
Thanks for posting this truly heart-warming item.
Because over time institutions tend to lean leftward. When a Republican does that, he becomes a Neo-lib-RINO
When a Democrat does that, he becomes...more of a lib.
Send it to Snopes and watch them spin...
It hasn't bothered him to be played for a fool, for decades.
I don't think he understands the meaning of the word 'fool'.
If the "instruction to female staff" about the dangers of entering an elevator alone with the Swimmer are true, why hasn't some enterprising female reporter followed up on this.
Come to think of it, why hasn't some Republican reporter so done? All three of you Pubbie reporters, wake up - opportunity knocks.
"Democrats' were bitter and humorless because they're wrong about everything."
Not true - Democrats are only wrong on matters of economics, defense, education, taxation, environment, the Constitution, abortion, social security - - .
;-)
My acquaintance worked in Kennedy's press office decades ago.
Friends don't let friends read drunk.
"How much longer will Massachusetts inflict this oxygen-thief upon us. The man is a joke that is no longer funny."
I'm laughing! =]
He made a fool of the entire, leftist camp. Muahahaha! And helped promote a thought-provoking satire. The wingnut ring leader of an army of fruit bars.
Buh-bye, Danny. You won't be missed. Concealed carry laws will decriminalize America one dead punk at a time.
Next up: classes for potential mugging victims to train them to get off at least crippling shots before getting their cheekbones broken and "abrasions elsewhere on her body."
To say nothing of the fantasy that the late junkie punk Danny had no alternative but to seek out an apparently vulnerable young woman from whom to "seek money" and a young woman who "could have easily provided the requested amount." Note that "Her life was PROBABLY not in danger." Poor Danny is dead because the law (Republican law/conservative law!!!) provided no help (!!!) to make Danny's mugging adventures safe and protected activity. How insensitive we are!!! We will have to resolve to do better.
Can we create law enforcement free zones and stock them (like trout streams) with physically vulnerable young ladies, an unescorted wheelchair-bound paraplegics and double amputees, each clearly identified as unarmed and each flush with thousands in cash in small unmarked bills???
We can call it "Danny's Law."
When the Red Sox had won their first World Series since 1918 (as in 1918!, 1918!, 1918!...) Red Sox management was kissing Ubercomrade Lurch's backside in support of his Presidential candidacy, but, (can a Yankee fanatic actually praise Red Sox players in public???) Curt Schilling (Bosoxese for bloody-socked Hercules) stumped for Dubya and was "in-your-face" to BoSox management for trying to get in his way. When the Red Sox were invited to the White House as World Champions, Johnny Damon made a point of telling Dubya in front of the press/MSM how one of the highlights of the World Series victory was to personally meet the man he enthusiastically voted for in the election.
Welcome to the hallowed centerfield at the Big Ball Orchard in the South Bronx where Earle Combs, Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle and even Bernie Williams were once showcased. You are freed from that caveman look courtesy of Yankee grooming rules. Welcome to the Free World, Mr. Damon! Strength and honor!
For all the things that matter, carry on!
Mayor Daley pulled the armed protection detail from City Clerk Laski but has kept it for the alderment, himself, and his many cabinet and sub-cabinet lackeys.
As the real Mayor Daley used to say
"Don't get CAUGHT doing anything illegal."
The crime is in getting caught.
If I were a cynic, I'd say Daley is sending a message to the marfia that ran the hired truck program "It's open season on closing the mouth of Laski before he let's Fitzgerald use him to move up the food chain."
Goodfellas understand the kind of message Daley is sending.
And yet Daley worries about "assault guns".
You're being very logical and you obviously have respect for truth, decency and to solemn duties of the Senate to conduct serious business in the confirmation process.
Unfortunately, the mainstream media possesses none of your qualities or they would have driven Ted Kennedy out of public life decades ago, simply by reporting the truth. Ted Kennedy is a bore, an intellectual zero, and a complete buffoon and he always has been. But he's their buffoon and he loyally carries their message whenever they ask.
This will disappear quickly down the mainstream media's memory hole just like it never happened.
